New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg expressed concern that private jet owners could clog up the city's homeless shelters.
You can arrive in your private jet at Kennedy Airport, take a private limousine and go straight to the shelter system, walk in the door, and weve got to give you shelter, Bloomberg said, speaking on the radio.
Thats what the law is. I didnt write the law, Bloomberg added.
The New York Post claims he was referring to a law related to homeless shelters signed by Ed Koch. "He was referring to a decree signed by Mayor Ed Koch 30 years ago that gives free shelter to anyone who says they need it," reports the Post.
"Bloombergs comments came the week that an advocacy group for the homeless released a report saying the citys homeless population surged in the past year."
Bloomberg is the 13th richest man in the world, Gothamist.com notes. "Forbes has its latest figures for the world's richest people, and our very own Mayor Bloomberg is number 13, with an estimated net worth of $27 billion."
It’s a stinking blog and you posted it!
“I hate Bloomberg like any freedom lover does but the point he may be making is that NYC is forced to provide a commodity to whomver demands one.
Of course, when the Govt is compelled to give away commodities at no cost to the user, demand goes sky high.”
Yeah, I’m sure LOT’S of uber rich are going to be going to homeless Shelters. There ain’t alot of celebrities, rich who even KNOW where the homeless shelters are.
You need to take another look at your post, cause it makes about as much sense as Bloomie does.
I think what he was trying to say is that the city is compelled to take anyone and everyone who shows up regardless of income or worth.
Yes, Michael. It really sucks when the mayor of a large city uses the power of his office to pass asinine laws to placate his personal view of right and wrong. People that don’t agree are, nonetheless, forced to comply. You have my sympathy. I know what that feels like.
This chooch actually scraped together enough brain cells to amass a fortune of $27 billion dollars!! By providing a valuable service to business!!
How did he do that?!?!?
It's The Weekly Standard. It's a short article that they label a blog, because they think it makes them sound hip to today's techie kids.
If they called the column "The Trumpet" would you think it was actually a brass instrument?
[[Thats what the law is. I didnt write the law, Bloomberg added.]]
And hten went on “If it were up to me, and it may very well be in the next few days, I will quickly ram through a new law that makes it illegal for rich folks to use city shelters, and will fine anyone who is rich who flies into our city and even looks like they may have wanted to sleep in a homeless shjelter because I am king, and NOONE in NY dares disobey me and I can do whatever the hell I want to”
NYer’s You have a DICTATOR i nthe making and you had better brace yourselves for the unthinkable- Germans went through the exact same thing- they kept tellign themselves, ‘oh, we’ll just hold out a little whilel onger, it ‘can’t get much worse’ until eventually peopel were being herded onto trains and slaughtered and STILL the peopel tolsd themselves ‘it can’t get much worse’- Folks- it IS gettign worse- STOP votign htese narcisists into office before it’s too late-
Dude, it was just getting good ! I've got all this popcorn now and nowhere to go......
Come on bloomie, give us all just one confirmed example of a rich guy flying around in a private jet who comes to N.Y,. and gets put up by your stupid welfare.
What a putz
