Hippies were rude, dirty, Satan worshipers, according to a paragraph that apparently appears in a Louisiana state-funded schools history book.
The book, entitled America: Land I love is an eighth-grade history textbook that Mother Jones reports is used in at least one Louisiana voucher school. The textbook is published through Pensacola, Fla.-based A Beka Book.
According to an image obtained at AmericaBlog.com, the passage on hippies paints a stark, unflattering image: They went to Canada or European countries to escape being drafted into military services. Many young people turned to drugs and immoral lifestyles; these youth became known as hippies. They went without bathing, wore dirty, ragged, unconventional clothing, and deliberately broke all codes of politeness or manners. Rock music played an important part in the hippie movement and had great influence over the hippies. Many of the rock musicians they followed belonged to Eastern religious cults or practiced Satan worship.

They didn’t worship anything from what I saw. They liked having a good time - Sex, drugs and rock and roll. that sort of thing
Yes, that statement was hyperbolic. However, as it has turned out, the title to that article was somewhat misleading...
Oh good grief! Don't believe that bs please. I read plenty of hippie literature back in those days, and Satan was not on their minds. The average hippie wasn't thinking about much beyond sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
>> “Hippies I knew didnt worship satan” <<
.
They worshiped humanity mostly, and that is the same thing.
I was there, played clubs at Northbeach in ‘66-’67, and all the owners wanted satanic crap, and if you didn’t give it to them your gig was over. The more satanic you looked, the more they would pay.
And let’s not forget about the Manson family cult types. Witchcraft and Satanism was considered “cool, dude” back then.
Imagine their surprise to grow up and discover that it was just stuckonstupid, typical leftie behavior....lol.
Yes, it did help me understand you.
>> “Im not sure those rock musicians really worshiped Satan.” <<
.
Do you understand TM?
It is totally an attempt to be one with satan and the material creation. LOads of the musicians of the time were into it.
>> “Not what the headline says” <<
.
Standard proceedure for leftist “journalists.” They know that few actually read the articles, so the falsehood in the Headline is what becomes the “truth.”
>> “However, as it has turned out, the title to that article was somewhat misleading” <<
.
Were you surprised?
How is this wrong?
Okay, maybe they did not KNOW they were worshipping Satan. They worshipped their bodies, their lusts and their vices at the same time they hated everything decent in society.
Same thing, even if they never used the word “Satan”
Really? This wasn’t just some kind of marketing gimmick or stage persona? I’m genuinely asking.
I would say that the majority of the “San Francisco” style bands were very much into TM, and it ruined their lives in most cases. Moby Grape, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, and lots more took a dive into a black hole forever.
A lot of hippies used Jesus as cover for the same crap all the other hippies were doing. Very little was Christian about them. Reminds me of the idjits wearing Che shirts, hippies with a Jesus shirt doesn’t make them Christian.
That was funny - thanks for the laffs
Another thing that you know nothing about, I get the impression that you are pretty young.
I just looked up TM, or Transcendental Meditation, looks like it is some kind of New Age Indian spiritual BS, not quite the same thing as actual Satan worship.
>> “More the first than the second, I suspect” <<
.
Sherman ol’ boy, the two are one and the same.
If it is not for Yeshua, it is fulfilling the adversary’s plan.
I’m not that young. I fail to see how stereotypical hippies could be anything like Christians
