ILION, N.Y. A group of New York state lawmakers says they've been told by Remington Arms that the company plans to spend $20 million upgrading its gun manufacturing plant in the Mohawk Valley.
Local media outlets report that three senators and three Assembly members met with Remington officials on Wednesday to discuss what they could do to ensure the company keeps its plant in the Herkimer County village of Ilion, where Remington employs about 1,200 people.....

Google tells me that Mohawk Valley is still in the state of N.Y.
Disappointing...
If Remington was smart they wold pack up their stuff and move to the south where people still have their sanity.
Massive tax breaks? Opt out of Obamacare?
Take the upgrade, fold, and move, selling at a higher profit then before the payoff.
Long time Remington fan but look elsewhere now for bolt actions. Perfect example of a Finance run company as opposed to an Engineering or Sales driven company. It now costs an additional $400 to $600 to clean up a 700 so it is usable. YMMV.
Exactly. They’re out of their minds if they stay there. New York is nothing but a totalitarian state now, with New York city a million times worse. And as we have seen with Despot Mike Bloomberg, anytime the state does not approve of what your company makes, they simply do this: Steal your money. If Remington wants to survive they should get the hell out of there like NOW.
Amen to that Brother.
I’ll never purchase a Remington product again.
If I were an investor in that company, I would be very disappointed in their choice to put money into a place where their products have a limited market. It doesn’t seem a stretch to think that NY may try to limit the manufacture of some of their products.
Shame on Remington...they will come to regret this decision.
I’d really like to know who that part of NY voted for in 2012 for President, who their Congressman is, etc.
I only own one Remington, a 1911R1 45ACP pistol. If this area is largely Democrat, voted for Obama and has a Democrat Congressman, it will be the very last Remington I buy.
ILION, NY --(AmmoLand.com)- Freedom Groups COO, Joseph B. Gross, today announced that the Remington Arms facility in Ilion, New York, will add 100 manufacturing jobs as it relocates certain production from its Marlin factory in North Haven Connecticut. The 194-year-old Ilion Firearms Plant, which is the Mohawk Valleys largest employer and the nations longest continuous manufacturer, will receive $5.9 million in building improvements, equipment and machinery investment over the next two years. The project will be supported with $1.5 million in grants from the Empire State Development Corporation, $200,000 in 2010 electricity cost subsidies, and the New York State Office of Community Renewal has earmarked a $750,000 New York State Community Development Block Grant for the project.
Or, is this expansion in addition to? Regardless, they should be moving out of, instead of expanding in, this state.
I’m hoping that it’s just Remington’s way of REMINDING the NY state legislature that they COULD expand operations, or those expansions could just as well end up in another state.
Remington is not that stupid.
If I could scrape together enough to get a Benelli M4, Id make myself Remington-free in a - pardon the expression New York minute... and this is coming from someone who grew up very enamored of Big Green.

I tell people all the time how the state runs people out of business and they can't believe it. For example here in despotic city of New York, Despot Bloomberg has instituted a system similar to the Nazis who use to tag the windows of Jewish businesses with the star of David and "Juden".
Despot Bloomberg instead tags their windows with a letter system. "A" for city approved. "B" for city approved but a less than stellar business. "C" for just passing and "D" for fail.
This is in the guise of "public health" which is complete BS because they do this to ALL businesses even if they sell newspapers and candy bars. This is so they can steal as much money as possible from a business by using extortion. "Pay us or we will tag your business telling the public to stay away." Gee, who use to do that?
Wow, this store that sells newspapers and candy sure looks "unsanitary" doesn't it?
The Marlin acquisition and "expansion" has been something of a disaster so far, but maybe another $20M would fill that particular hole if they don't tamp it down too hard.
