Why don't we drug and alcohol test all appointed and elected officials?

Posted on 03/05/2013 10:52:10 AM PST by jyro

I've been drug and alcohol tested for the last 20 years at my work. It's random and occurs every year. It only seems logical to test all officials also.

Well, a large part of the problem is that they write the laws.

“Well, a large part of the problem is that they write the laws.”

Yep. Couple that with an inattentive, stupid public, and the results aren’t good.

The Supreme Court already said it is unconstitutional.

It would useless, too. But that's a different story.

I think we need to drug our elected officials with either thorazine or nebutal. They will do less damage that way.

"a large part of the problem is that they write the laws."

I'd press that comment for fact. I don't think a legislator has written a bill themselves for decades. Legislation is drafted by the lobbying crowd and then delivered to staffers for approval. Then it's announced out of committe from a committee which has no idea what is in the bill besides declaring that we need to pass it to find out what's in it.

No sireee, I say stay safe and drug them up good-n-hard.

If not for government, what would these drunks have done for a living?

I’d settle for drug testing welfare recipients.

I’ve been advocating this for years. The logic for testing is protecting the public by insuring safety.

What is more important and affects our safety and security than passing laws?

Every voting member of Congress should be tested before each vote and if any member fail, the entire vote should be postponed until they all test negative.

Obama has the dark sunken eye sockets commonly associated with heroin addicts. I think he needs to be drug tested.

An IQ and aptitude test wouldn’t hurt either.

Never will happen though. Funny story. I was working for a large oil company. Random drug testing for all operations personnel and contractors was the subject. I asked if this also applied to the office personnel and the management team? The room went dead silent. I was never popular but I was even less popular after this question.

I am reminded of the Ernie Pyle cartoon of a General surveying the Alps and remarking to his aide, “Beautiful view Captain. Is there one for the enlisted men?”

On a related note, any politician who proposes gun control legislation should accompany the bill with a guarantee that no further gun violence will occur.

If the bill passes and further gun violence occurs, then he/she has to pay a $10,000,000 fine and spend ten years in jail.

I'd be willing to impose that for ANY legislation that ends up having "unintended consequences." I'm tired of being the subject of gubbermint social experiments. What does it take for we the people to just be left the hell alone?

Rant Off

I agree.People who plan on serving the public as politicians should be requiered nation wide to submit for a Background check,Narcitics abuse check,as well as a psycogical test.

These morons that are voted into office are ruining the lives of not only the Amercan people but also the lifeblood of the economic system.

If they can mandate that we get a background check to buy and carry a gun so should they.Hey!Whats Good for the Goose is good for the Gander.

And while they’re at it how about mandatory lie detector tests with the following questions:
1) Have you ever stolen from the federal gov’t or your campaign funds
2) Are you now or ever have been delinquint on paying your taxes;
3) Have you taken funds from special interest groups or donors with the express intent to vote on a matter as a result.(Bribery)

Working for a living, you are drug-tested to keep employed.

Living off others, like the inner-city tribal parasites, you don't have to pass any tests, and can use your handouts to buy your crack, pot, booze, tatoos, etc., with no hassle whatsoever.
