SAN DIMAS (CBSLA.com) Authorities say a shotgun-wielding 24-year-old man shot and killed one of two pit bulls attacking a woman and her horse along a trail in San Dimas Saturday.
Sheriffs Lieutenant David Vega of the San Dimas station said officials were notified about the attack in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Walnut Avenue at 8:58 a.m.
[The dogs] knocked her off the horse and took the horse down, Vega said.
One of them latched onto the horses upper leg and locked on. She (the rider) suffered a few scrapes, Vega said.
The man, a San Dimas resident, fired some shots from his .22-caliber rifle into the pit bull, breaking the dogs lock on the horses leg. That dog was killed.
The extent of the horses injuries were not immediately known.
Animal Control took the other dog into custody.
The dogs may have come from a local residence or pit bull rescue, the sheriffs lieutenant said.
The man was not cited or arrested.

Not at all clear whether he used shotgun or .22 pistol.
Or both?

Maybe a .22 caliber shotgun. It’s California, after all.

There used to be an “over/under” shotgun/.22 rifle once upon a time.
Could be that’s what he had?

Pitt Bulls are to America what Hippos are to Africa: KILLERS.

An updated version of the journalists’guide now refers to several of those weapons as “AR-15”s.

This is hilarious... The website has a graphic entitled "SHOOTING".. Shouldn't it say "Pitt Bull Attack"??
Why isn't this woman identified by name? Was she an avid 'Anti-Gun Advocate'??
I'll bet you she loves guns now.

IIRC I had a Red Ryder AK-BB gun when I was a kid.

Could have been an over/under .22/.410...
...whatever, way to go...this is a nightmare for all who walk, ride bikes, etc.
..I see people walking these dogs all the time, and i am aways ready for attack. Some of the dogs are being handled by little women, the dog sometimes weighs more.
