I should correct myself. This is the first Sunday of Lent, not the 5th Day. The 5th Day is tomorrow.
MacArthur Park, Richard Harris.
I better go back to bed and start over...I apologize to everyone..This is actully the Second Sunday of Lent.
I should say that I am enjoying all the love songs submitted these past few days from fellow Freepers. People, such as beaversmom, Psalm 73, and Alaska Wolf, have submitted some wonderful choices with the youtube link, which I think is important as it gives you the opportunity instantly to hear the tune.
I might list some of the best so far later today, but here are two submitted by Fiji Hill. I had never heard of them before, realizing how far and away we are removed from what went on in this country 75 to 100 years ago culturally. I can imagine the joy these two singers must have given Americans during some dark times.
Somebody Like You—Jane Green https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L—g-leKEDU
No Other Love—Jo Stafford https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UjhDUh5IYA
What a voice Jo Stafford has! She also sings, probably the first time, You Belong to Me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQfF84ackMM

Reminds me of the absolute awful version by William Shatner. It was so bad, I can’t find it, but to give you an idea, as it was on this album where he did Rocket Man. Check out Willie Boy doing Rocket Man—the worst recorded song in the history of recording music since Edison.

Some may challenge us to defend the song, but it needs no defending, it was a hit because of the romantic tone and theme, and sentiments expressed.
The expressiveness, the soaring notes, and the expression of transcendent transition into a discovery of love and self sacrifice, of being consumed.
My Romance - song by Rodgers and Hart and sung by Ella Fitzgerald

For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her by Simon and Garfunkel

What a dream I had
Pressed in organdy
Clothed in crinoline
Of smoky burgundy
Softer than the rain
I wandered empty streets down
Past the shop displays
I heard cathedral bells
Dripping down the alleyways
As I walked on
And when you ran to me, your
Cheeks flushed with the night
We walked on frosted fields
Of juniper and lamplight
I held your hand
And when I awoke
And felt you warm and near
I kissed your honey hair
With my grateful tears
Oh, I love you girl
Oh, I love you
Simon and Garfunkel - Kathy’s Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaqckXBqtkQ
I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls.
And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies.
My mind’s distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you’re asleep
And kiss you when you start your day.
And as a song I was writing is left undone
I don’t know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can’t believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme.
And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.
As much as I hate the hippy 60’s, here’s one for the new millennium!

*sigh*
...and led to a tour of (maybe not so) lost beautiful “songbirds”.
This one, my parents would play her album on the old console...
ahhh, just beautiful! Especially compared to the drek pounding 2013’s ears into insensitivity!
