Latin America accounts for 483 million Catholics, or 41.3% of the total Catholic population. Of the 10 countries in the world with the most Catholics, four are in Latin America. Brazil has the highest Catholic population of any country at more than 150 million. Italy has the most Catholics in Europe, with 57 million, while DR Congo has the biggest Catholic population in Africa, ranking ninth in the world with almost 36 million.

Does Nancy Pelosi count as one?
That depends on how one defines "Catholic". If one takes into account all the cases where people have latae sententiae excommunicated themselves from the church, I'd say the numbers of "actual practicing Catholics" are considerably less than 100 million (100,000,000) worldwide.
It really depends on what you mean by “Catholics”
In reality I don’t believe there are very many.
If you think that well over 92% of Catholics are so purposefully awful in practicing their religion that they are no longer members of the body of Christ, then I suggest you work on, for one thing, charity.
You can increase the number by one. You have the power!

Agreed,Yo: Alex comes off like a petulant teen-ager who can’t wait to shoot his mouth off....
Ping me when you talk about me.
Are those practicing a form of Catholic Syncretism (the combination of Catholic teaching and Pagan practice) actually Catholics?? In this case, did they actually convert?
How about those self-identifying as Catholics who don’t practice?? (much of Western Europe)
Numbers is tricksy stuff...
I suspect that if you take out physical reproduction in third world countries, Catholicism may be shrinking, but of course, I don’t really know.
Actually, I went to Alex Murphy’s home page too, and it is mostly full of his own pronouncements on how worthy he thinks we all are in his eyes.
I’ll let God judge me, not Alex, thank you very much. And to the extent that I can influence wayward Catholics, I’ll work to do it in positive - and actually effective - ways.
I'm sure God appreciates your generosity in the matter.
It was Nabber who started the comparison downgrade which does not bode well on a religion topic and comes close to a personal attack. Have a good day.
“Does Nancy Pelosi count as one?”
As long as the Roman Catholic Church continues to allow her to be a part of their organization, even with the blood of millions on her hands... yes she’s a catholic.
I'm not the one judging them. Catholics have told us that the more often a Catholic attends mass, the more likely said person is a faithful, practicing i.e. "real" Catholic and not just a self-professing "cafeteria" Catholic. I've also seen studies that show only 10% or so of "self-professing" Catholics actually attend mass weekly. So when you put the two together, the number of "real Catholics" in this country is no higher than 7 million (i.e. one tenth of the 70 million or so that the USCCB reports).
The exit polls for the last two presidential elections found that only 25% of the highest "weekly attending" religious group voted for Obama. I'm giving "real" Catholics the benefit of the doubt on this one, and crediting the 7 million with that voting percent. Assuming that a quarter of the 7 million weekly-attending Catholics voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012, said voting act automatically excommunicates them, for unrepentingly supporting a pro-abortion politician. Thus, the 7 million now drops to roughly 5.5 million "real" Catholics here in the USA, or just 7.8 percent of the starting number.
Admittedly, that's the USA. I'm extrapolating the 7.8 percent onto the global numbers, unless someone really wants to argue that the mess that is Latin America is produced by faithful, practicing Catholics.
It doesn’t matter. Not all Catholics are conservative. I know a little old woman who attends every church service she can, and twice if there are two services that day, but when it comes to Obama and democrats, even if they publicly came out and stated they were Satan’s minions, she would still vote for them.
You, Bipolar Bob, feel compelled to use snobby words when a simple one would do. But maybe that was your bipolar nature, the one where you turn into a college professor. I don’t have a “homepage”, if you were referring to me. Alex reveals himself to be a knee-jerk anti-Catholic with a distinct taste for smartassedness....
That's funny. I do this because that is a Catholic MO . . . well . . . among the learned ones it is. There are quite a few well read Catholics with a wider vocabulary than mine so the irony of your post amuses me.
I dont have a homepage, if you were referring to me.
Hey, you're not just another purty face are ya'?

Not true. He posts the truth as he sees it. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean he's right or wrong - just different. What you call smartassedness is what I call clever. Have a good day.

Hey, don't forget to feed the narcissist!
