Jan. 1, 2014, will find the fat lady singing for my husband and me. That is when smokers will have to "cough up" extra money for their health insurance because of a provision of the Affordable Health Act. I am 60, which means that I will pay $5,000 extra. My husband at 54 will pay more than $4,000 extra each year. Mind you that this is on top of the insurance payments we already make.

Does anyone know where to go to find out information on all this?
If they can do it to smokers, they can do it to drinkers. They can do it to “the obese”. Welcome to fascism.
CSM, just wanted to voice my total agreement with your posts! You are 100% correct. Just as “gun control” is not about controlling guns, but rather, controlling PEOPLE, Obamacare is not about “caring” or “insuring” anyone, it is about CONTROLLING EVERYONE.
It appears that enough people will quit smoking, eventually, and that will cut yet more ill gotten revenues to the beast. If you want to try to quit, try to quit. Then try it again. Each time you try, ask yourself, “How do I feel? Am I okay?” You’ll come to the conclusion each time, that you’re alright (although feeling different). Resolve to avoid going negative on those around you.
Quit a thousand times, if necessary, until you know the physical and mental changes of quitting inside and out. Pay attention to those changes (waking feelings, sleep patterns and other changes).
Isolate yourself from smokes for a few hours one way, then do it another way. Then, for days. Get thoroughly acquainted with quitting. In time, it’ll feel better to avoid smoking than to smoke. You can do it. Then, what will the non-smoking fascists, who have their own problems and do their own wrongs have to pick at?
If you don’t want to try, then you won’t. That’s alright, too, IMO.
