Yep. My local farm supply store has been out of .22s for MONTHS and we’re having a hard time getting ‘stingers’ for shooting troublesome coyote around here! I was FINALLY able to make a purchase through a private source, but just plain old 40 grain Remington .22s.
I’m kind of thinking that the retailers/manufacturers are LOVING this ‘supply and demand’ stuff. ;)
Standard everywhere. Here in relatively effete liberal suburbia (Alexandria and Burke in Northern Virginia) there’s nothing to be found outside of some .17HMR and maybe a few boxes of shotshells (mostly 20 gauge).
One of the consequences of the huge Federal purchases.
This is a regular occurance when there’s a run on ammo.
I noticed the local Wal-Mart was out of just about every kind of ammo. There did not seem to be a shortage of rifles and shotguns. They even had a Mossberg Rifle on clearance.
Usually this area does not respond much to national trends but it sure is now.
I guess we can buy ammunition from foreign suppliers and have it shipped? Anyone know about that?

**** “The three box limit would get me exactly zero at my locat Walmart. Shelves are empty.” ****
Empty here too ... I still check every-time I’m there anyway
TT
Same here. Checked at the Farm Store where I purchase my ammo normally. Nothing but shotgun shells and some .38 Special.
Yup, same here.
Had to run to Academy Sporting goods 30 miles away, had some 9mm fmj target stuff, had some .44 mag fmj no hollow points, no 30-30, no 30-.06, no .22.
Stocked up on what I could, slim pickin's at big bucks.
Said another shipment could be in Thursday.....Added maybe, but wasn't sure.
Bingo. Was in one of my local Wallyworlds yesterday to pick up a couple boxes of .308s and was disappointed to see there were only about 4 boxes of ammo of some kind left on the shelf, not my type of course.
No bullets to be found anyplace in East Texas, except the usual deer cartridges, shotgun shells, etc.

I have just popped into several local WM's lately....
...Shelves USUALLY bare....
Yet we have found rounds in stock a few times.
Their reps tell us they get restocked 2-3 times a week...
And pretty good supply-- it just sells FAST FAST FAST...
Luck of the draw... Keep checkin'
I went to Wal-Mart early Saturday morning. They had just put out about a dozen 20-round boxes of American Eagle .223 (55-grain FMJ) and the same number of 9mm 115-grain ball. I told the clerk I wanted all of the boxes of .223 and she said I could only have three boxes of ANYTHING (not 3 boxes of .223, and 3 boxes of 9mm, and 3 boxes of .380, etc.); total of 3 boxes no matter what I wanted to buy.
So, I bought the 3 box limit of .223 and I’m sure the guys behind me scooped up the rest.
“...Walmart. Shelves are empty.”
Here, too.
Someone is lying here.
.22 Long Rifle Ammo.
Are the shipments even going?
Are the store manager or employees selling out the backdoor for a big cash adder?
The ammo is not getting to the shelves for public consumption.
The secondary market is 5X the price of October.
Yes, Virgina Wall-mart did limit the sales of toilet paper.
Most believe the great toilet paper shortage of 1973 was cause by a johnny Carson’s joke. Really? This was the era of Jimmy Carter’s malaise.
Could have this been a practice run? What ever happen to Mr. Whipple?
The this might a subject Roseanne Barr has spoken about which we might have some agreement on. Her butt is too big for jut one square.
Several observations about the ammo shortages. A lot of those AR and Ruger semi-automatic rifles have been sold over the last year. From what I’ve seen at the gun club, many of those users go through bricks of 22LR in a single session. The same with the .223/5.52 rifles. I haven’t seen so many M16 type weapons since I left the service years ago, but it is not uncommon now to see the entire line at the 100/200 yard range with lines waiting to shoot. Remember, this does not include military or police shooters which shoot only at reserved times/days. Finally, I think many shooters are just stocking up. I’ve run into a couple of instances where retailers have been backdooring ammo sales to their special friends but word eventually gets out and they get fired. I personally stocked up over the past year and don’t have to buy any, but I have cut back my shooting somewhat. I think this shortage will pass within a couple months and the best bet is to buy as little as possible at these high prices and wait it out.
my local walmart said they have not recieved .22 LR since before Christmas.
