Is epigenetics a critical factor in homosexuality?
mygenes.co.nz ^ | 01/23/2013 | N.E.Whitehead, Ph.D

A paper by epigenetic researchers (Rice, W.R., Friberg, U. Gavrilets, 2012) has been generally reported as being a new explanation of homosexuality. My conclusion, in accordance with that of the authors, is that this is a theory only. There have been numerous attempts within at least 13 different research fields to show a strong biological basis to homosexuality and all have failed. This new field – epigenetics – will probably join them.

The work relies on the generally accepted idea that prenatal testosterone is critical in sex-development, and the authors believe that epigenetics play an important role in reinforcing the sexual differentiation caused by testosterone., e.g., they make the statement, “ …sexual dimorphism strongly influenced by androgen exposure – both genitalia and brain”. However they do not seem to have encountered the important 2012 paper (Lombardo et al. 2012) in which testosterone is shown to have only a weak influence on sexual dimorphism in the brain (15-20%; Whitehead submitted 2012), see the posting on this site for a review).

As pointed out in My Genes Made Me Do It! Chapter 1, known congenital malformations which are epigenetic in origin occur much less frequently in the population than homosexuality. If the prevalence of these malformations is typical of epigenetic processes, this is a numerical argument that same sex attraction is not primarily caused by prenatal epigenetics.

In my view this paper risks joining the many other efforts to show a powerful biological causality in homosexuality, all of which have failed.

weren’t 47% of gays molested as children?

Maybe that is a factor?

Yep, abuse; parental quality, availability and involvement; physical or social attractiveness; and pornography I would think would be the 4 main factors in the behavior.

Dude, straight guy goes to prison for 20 years...going that long without sex he’ll ef anything. Comes out “gay.”

The fact is that people will screw anything under the right circumstances.

Call it biology or choice. Doesn’t matter.

IDK, but so-called brain doctors (”psychologists and psychiatrists”) telling people “if it feels good, do it”, for generations have certainly created a narcissistic and destructive society that cares only for “me”.

The short answer is that sex positive agenda advocates DON’T CARE what “causes” such desires. Their SOLE stated goal is to END all moral judgments over ALL sexual pairings regardless of sex, age, relation, marital status, number, or species of partner(s). They consider orgasm to be a birthright to be enjoyed by everyone at every age with no rules or shame involved. To NOT act on your urges is “unhealthy” in their hedonistic worldview.

Putting “scientific” explanations behind such desires is only to placate those who sit on the fence and need to be assured “they can’t help themselves, they were born that way”.

There is no cross-dressing gene. We are born naked. Style of clothing is determined by local custom.

And what’s with people who are “attracted” to transexuals? If you “don’t have any desire” for the sex traits of the opposite sex, why seek out those who have cosmetically altered themselves?

Screwed in the head. The “new” normal.

The key to managing the issue of homosexuality is to understand that there can be several causes, some overlapping, some not. There is no scientific reason why there has to be one cause and one cause only of a certain range of phenotypic behaviors. Indeed the search for such a simple and sovereign explanation for complex behaviors amounts to a logical fallacy.

They're also desperate for scientific explanations so they can finally force everyone to accept the lifestyle. Absent them, there are still people who will be against it.

A genetic predisposition for alcoholism or heroin abuse (because of fetal damaged by addicted parents) would not excuse the behavior of acting on that desire to get dangerously #^*@ed up.

There may be a ridiculously obvious explanation.

To have significant and important genetic diversity, each person’s genome is a mix of dominant and recessive genes. If we just passed dominant genes to our children, they would be too similar, and thus at risk of all being wiped out by some catastrophe, like a contagious disease.

Yet people have relatively few offspring, so the genetic temptation is to load the first offspring with an abundance of dominant genes. However, there is still a genetic impulse to pass on the recessive genes as well, so as the first offspring may be loaded with dominant genes, the second offspring may have an overabundance of recessive genes.

This, or something like it, is called the “fraternal birth order effect.” In several studies, the observation is that the more older brothers a man has, the greater the probability is that he will have a homosexual orientation. It has sometimes been called the older brother effect. It has been estimated that 15% of the homosexual demographic is caused by fraternal birth order.”

I believe the vast majority of homosexuals and other sexual deviants were abused as children. I have a nephew who was sexual abused by his father. The child - at 4 - tried to talk my son into perverted acts while taking a bath. My wife overheard and brought in defax.

I think the child molesting monsters use their victims to recruit other children. It is a sickness that is passed along to new generations.

Or getting dominated in childhood and adolescence by his older brother(s).

It’s a sin.

If it were just a disability, God would not send you to hell for unrepentantly practicing it. Birth defects are not a sin.
