The glycemic index is a steaming pile of horse manure. If you eat huge quantities of almost anything, your blood sugar will spike and/or you will gain weight. So many people have been bamboozled by this index, they are avoiding whole food groups because of this arbitrary index. In doing so, people cut out food that has nutrition their bodies need.

Sorry, but I will continue eating shredded wheat, fruit, pizza and pasta...in reasonable amounts.

The real danger is the hidden additives in foods. Foods labelled: diet and healthy are generally the worst. Many people cannot process the added chemicals from things like Splenda to Canola Oil or High Fructose Corn Syrup, which leads to increase glucose levels, which in time, leads to diabetes.

The nutritional label is a crock. Genetically altered foods or man made chemicals or refined foods (white sugar, white flour) are to be avoided. Instead of white sugar, use raw honey or raw sugar. Instead of margarine use butter. The purer the food, the better, the easier it is for the body to process.

No, not really. The pile of steaming manure is the government food pyramid and the cholesterol lie. You can eat what you want. I have absolutely no support for anyone who wants to dictate what others put into their bodies willingly. I will fight to the death for your right to consume whatever you wish. However, there are indeed entire food groups you should not eat to avoid heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. Processed sugar and grains are on that list. Humans did not eat grains until the advent of Agri-society. Fructose makes all the difference. There is no place for processed sugar or grains in the human diet. You can live without them and be a healthier person doing it. Note: fermented grains are fantastic for you because of the good flora and fauna in them.

There are plenty of other foods that blow grains (any grain) away when it comes to BRIX measurements (see cacao, avocados, Brussel sprouts or coconuts). And I'm not saying the occasional treat is bad. Everything in moderation. What I am saying is that eating the RDA of grains coupled with 3-6 cokes or a candy bar a day is indeed quantifiably bad. In a nutshell the government food pyramid is a recipe for dis-ease.
