The Right Calls Obama a Dictator, but Sarah Palin Disarmed the Alaska Civil Militia

In 2008, the Anchorage Daily News ran this deck bellow the headline: NO MORE GUNS: Alaska State Defense Force stripped of many powers.
Irony knows no bounds when it comes to the Tea Party.
In 2008, Tea Party Queen and Shoot Em Up and Hang Em Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) disarmed brigade members of the Alaska State Defense Force (think volunteer militia) at the recommendation of the state military officials, based on a report by an investigator with the Washington National Guard.
(I)n a major decision proving unpopular with at least some of the forces roughly 280 members, the state is taking away the brigades guns.
Yes, Sarah Palin, as executive of the state, took away their guns. And no, conservatives, you cant have it both ways. Clearly they gave Sarah Palin the report and she took executive action on it (also known as tyranny when a Democrat does it).
The report does not say Westall was a bad commander, Campbell said. The report says the state defense force, its a voluntary organization, its part time, its dedicated volunteers serving their state, but they dont have the intensity of training, the skill sets the National Guard has.
As a result, Campbell recommended to Gov. Sarah Palin that brigade members should no longer be armed.
The state also read a report on said militia, and yet the state was not accused of hating Republicans. Do not try this on a national level.
A report ordered by George W. Bushs Department of Homeland Security warned of right wing domestic terrorism, writing that the economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment. This caused massive right wing hysteria by the usual suspects. Michelle Malkin quickly donned her Republican Poutrage, and the Drudge and Breitbart followed with their angry misunderstandings of reality.
The report was unveiled in April of 2009, during the beginning of the Obama administration, and so naturally Republicans screamed and hollered about how it hurt their feelings to have a federal agency report the facts until the agency decided not to distribute the report to law enforcement. (No such whining when the same agency released a report on left wing terrorism.) This was before the Obama administration figured out that catering to crazy only enables it.
Sarah Palin has a reputation as a great gun freedom fighter of the Right (in spite of her struggles with actually shooting a gun on her reality TV show). The fact that she directed her administration to disarm the militia in 2008 and yet we heard nothing of this during the 2008 election suggests that disarming the militia is equated with liberty and loving the second amendment when a Republican does it.
When a Republican is in charge, the cult salivates at the use of dictatorial power. Its a form of security for them, resulting in what psychologists describe as an urge to be dominated and controlled, stemming from their deeply shameful suspicion that they cant control themselves.1
We must remember Sarah Palins affectionate relationship with Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is sending out his civilian armed posse to patrol for illegal immigrants and to protect the schools. Its a wonder Palin didnt explain to him that in her own state, they found that administering a part-time civilian force brings a high liability risk to the state. Yes, really.
Why is that? Because they are not trained as well as the professionals. Go figure. This conclusion comes dangerously close to suggesting that education matters, gravity exists, there is such a thing as expertise and that not everyone should be armed with a gun. But outside of their own actual records, Republican exceptionalism demands that we attribute equal weight to non-exerts and arm chair wannabes, lest we be called elitists.
All you need to do in order to represent second amendment freedom is pose with guns and put cross hairs on your opponents. You can disarm the militia in your state without DESTROYING THE CONSTITUTION so long as you have an R after your name. Also, posing while leaning on the flag in short shorts helps (warning: do not try this as a Democrat or you will be branded a hater of the troops and an enemy of freedom).
If you have a D after your name, dont you dare even mention enforcing the existing gun safety laws, or else the Tea Party (read: Civil War Resentment Party) will denounce you as a dictator and threaten to throw you in jail for violating their imaginary Constitution. You know, the one they would have written if only they had won that awful war of Northern Aggression.
Remember patriots, image is everything. Substance zero.
Update: This is for the Palin fans. The question is, what would the rights reaction have been if this same scenario had happened under President Obama. With a title reading NO MORE GUNS they would have gone insane. Theyve already jumped the tyrant Hitler shark over 23 executive actions that do little more than direct gun safety commissions and enforce existing laws. Only two address limiting the availability of a category of gun or a magazine capacity. If Obama ordered Arpaios posse to be disarmed because they were a liability, would the right be defending that as they are Palins actions?
1. Note: These are real psychological theories on authoritarianism that are worth a look if you want to understand the consistent hypocrisy of the right. The conservative base can be seen as suffering from a desire to submit to an authoritarian who represents traditional values. The underlying theory is that the authoritarian personality has a weak ego unable to manage their id impulses. Alfred Adler proposed an alternative theory that power-over seekers are compensating for a feeling of inferiority, which might explain why Republican leaders are able to manipulate their base by stoking resentment of liberal elitists. Professor Bob Altemeyer expands on this theory in his book The Authoritarians. John W. Deans book, Conservatives Without a Conscience discusses the psychology of obedience to authority. For more on how the Republican fear that they cant control themselves causes them to seek policies that impose rigid moral control, read Red State Blue State.

Obama (via the military) confiscates the weapons of every retired military man exiting the services. NO? Conservatives have not been raising hell about this. What is this writers point other than leftist propaganda?
To: Texas Songwriter
Yes, certainly it is leftist propaganda.
Obama like the rest of the Commie Dems hate anyone who loves freedom, honesty, morality, truth and anything else that deprives them of control of everyone else.
Texans breathed the intoxicating air of freedom at the birth of the Republic. There is no cure for that and even several generation of time does not erase that.
City dwellers are an exception. Some how they tend to become isolated from the reality of the world outside the asphalt turf and forget what is really important.
Globalists are even more evil.
We are witnessing the convergence of the Marxists Left, Muslims and Fascist Globalist against the Christians, Jews and some others of faith.
The Left had best reflect on what they are asking for. The price for attempting to disarm TX and much of the heartland is very high. They don’t have enough goons to pull it off.
To: Bratch
This is leftist drivel.
Adorno and adherents of the Frankfurt School have written all about the “authoritarian” tendencies of conservatives.
IIRC, about 8 years or so ago, there was a “metastudy” done by Kruglanski, et. al. that beat the same drum.
Note: a “meta study” is a study performed that examines previous studies that have been done. IOW, no original work, just new conclusions.

> That is the first time I’ve seen it explained that way, and it makes so much sense. Militia themselves must be well-regulated by “the people,” who have equal right to bear arms as those in the militia. “The people” are always on equal footing. Disarmed people are subjects to official government “militia” designees. People with as much right to bear arms as the militia in what ever form it takes, are guaranteed the ability to, perhaps, keep the militia honest.
> Have I interpreted it correctly, do you think?
Mrs. Palin had the right idea. An unregulated militia can be a dangerous entity. Formed with good intent, but not given a purpose, a militia will first degenerate to a social club, then morph into an armed group of thugs. The USA has a number of private militias that are dangerous to both the government and the People.
The People must have the right to keep and bear arms.

Thank you for the post. We all know that there is good and evil and proponents of each. No one ever lived that was not criticized, including Jesus Christ, and his apostles. Satan is the god of this world, and very active including America. Which is obvious with the acceptance into law of government paid abortions, and the gay agenda being sanctioned, some churches are accepting such a life style. "come out of her my people"
It is not in agreement with the WORD of God. No matter what the people decide the Word of God is eternal and does not change. Let us repent and turn back to God in truth, in Jesus name, amen.

A couple days ago, some imbecile no doubt one of Obamas low-information voters at a far-left blog wrote a piece in which she claimed Governor Palin disarmed the Alaska civil militia when she was Alaskas chief executive. The aforementioned hebetudinous blogger then attempts (and fails miserably) to turn this nonsense into some kind of an attack on Governor Palins credibility: How can the Governor criticize Obamas attack on second amendment rights when she disarmed her states militia? Presumably the conclusion she wants her low-information readers to arrive at is that Governor Palin is secretly an anti-gun zealot and, therefore, any criticism she directs toward Obama is hypocritical. Or something. Anyway, our friend Mark America is all over this idiocy:
If youve ever wondered about the motive driving the anti-Palin left, sufferers of Palin Derangement Syndrome(PDS,) or other venom-laden spittle disguised as reporting, wonder no longer. Willing to twist or omit facts, relying instead upon the absolute gullibility of their audiences, their intention is to propagandize by virtue of one-thousand easily discredited cuts, knowing that their less-than-curious audiences will buy almost anything without question or critical analysis. In most cases, the manner in which a supporter of Sarah Palin will defend against such garbage is to first attack the fraudulent authors propaganda, presenting the facts that negate the false charges leveled by the propagandist involved. The problem is that these people are so despicable that they dont care if theyre caught lying by the sane world, as they know their Low Information Audiences wont ever discover the truth. Im going to do it somewhat differently, because I want you to experience the shock value of knowing the real story before reading the propaganda. For once, you ought to know what it must be like to be Sarah Palin, or anybody else who is attacked in this manner, because having lived reality, it must be shocking to see facts about oneself twisted into such devious propaganda.
Lets consider a story that had appeared in the Anchorage Daily News, way back in October of 2008, as Sarah Palin was busy campaigning for the office of Vice President with Presidential candidate John McCain. During the previous summer, before Palin had been chosen as McCains running mate, an investigation by authorities had concluded with a recommendation by Lt. Gen. Craig Campbell, the states military and veterans affairs commissioner that an all-volunteer militia led by Brig. General Thomas Westall, created to assist the Nation Guard, ought to be disarmed of state-owned and provided weapons over potential liability issues for the state. This investigation had stemmed from a complaint filed by a member, Larry Wood, because he felt the militia commander might be issuing arbitrary orders and dismissals to members, he himself having been dismissed for unclear cause by his own account. In short, this was a situation in which responsible Alaska State officials were heading off any potential liability situation for the state. This sort of action is undertaken by any responsible state official who is concerned with making policies and taking decisions consistent with their official mandates. It had been concluded by investigators that the militia had insufficient policies and procedures, such that its control and direction had come into question. The article in the ADN had been: Defense Commander Resigns After Complaints.
If youre at all like me, you look at the facts of the story, and conclude that the State of Alaska had been concerned there could be some sort of monkey-business going on with the force, known as the 49th Military Police Brigade since 2004, and the state rightly did not wish to take on liability for a force that had not such proper procedures and policies in place to deal with personnel matters, or much of anything. Nobody was criminally sanctioned, or in any way prosecuted, but the state simply decided that they could not permit this force to be armed in its name any longer. Thats not so unusual, and bluntly, no public official wants a poorly-organized force armed with State authority to carry on much of anything in an official capacity. Who could blame either Lt. General Campbell, or Governor Sarah Palin for taking what can only be categorized as perfectly natural and responsible actions? Well, there is somebody, and predictably, that somebody is a professional propagandist of the organized left.
Now that youve read through the originating story, and are at least familiar with the facts of the case, I now wish to present to you the fantastic tale of Palin anti-gun hypocrisy cobbled together by certified PDS sufferer Sarah Jones, of Politicususa. If ever you have wondered what it is like to be Sarah Palin, imagine if you will what one must feel when reading the following nonsensical, inane and distorted headline, knowing what you already do:
The Right Calls Obama a Dictator, but Sarah Palin Disarmed the Alaska Civil Militia
The first thing that should grab you is that the story changed title, becoming more dishonest, thereby venting more rage in Sarah Palins direction. Examing the URL of the story tells the tale. Notice that the author changed the label of the disarmed group from Defense Force to Civil Militia in order to cause readers to wonder if Palin had disarmed ordinary citizens. Titles have been:
- Tea Party Darling Sarah Palin Disarmed Alaska State Defense Force
- The Right Calls Obama a Dictator, but Sarah Palin Disarmed the Alaska Civil Militia
Given the nature of the website in question, we might well expect the next mutation of the title to be:
- Palin Takes Guns from Alaska Schoolhouse Defense League While Right Wing Racist NRA Klansmen Cheer
Dont laugh. I expect that title to appear at any time. Part and parcel of that sites schtick is to paint all conservatives, but particularly Sarah Palin, with the broadly damning brushes of racism, extremism, violence and hypocrisy. These are pathologically broken individuals, based on the content of their stories, but fortunately, only what must be considered a Low Information Voter could possibly believe the nonsense authored there.
Theres much more to Marks piece and I urge to go here and read the whole thing. When I see the Left continuing to use this kind of tortured pretzel logic and outright lies to attack Governor Palin, I cant help but wonder why they spend so much time and effort on someone they insist is no longer relevant. Am I missing something?

From the story, it sounds like Gov. Palin didn’t DISARM them, she disbanded the organization, due to liability concerns. As far as I know, the men still have the weapons they purchased privately.
