In what is sure to be a complete non-starter with the Obama administration, WSJ reports that Paul Ryan said that "Republicans are discussing whether to support a short-term increase in the nation's borrowing authority, possibly linking the debt ceiling to future talks aimed at reaching a major deficit deal...."Mr. Ryan wouldn't say what he meant by a temporary debt-ceiling increase, declining to give a specific increase figure or timeframe for an extension."

bohica....
Well, if it’s only temporary, then it’s quite all right!
Kick the can...
temporary increase, permanent minority status
My response would be”NO”
Would that like kick half a can or maybe kick at the can or ?????? Hell, I am confused but know one thing they have already caved in and given up
How about just one damn budget during this administration.
I am now convinced that the GOP leadership are a bunch of democrats. And the rest have absolutely no balls for a political fight. Seriously, this is how to get us motivated? Maybe we should send the leadership some marbles, to signify the largest possible set of balls we would like them to have.
The old “we promise to talk about cutting spending” trick
Oh good god!!!!! WTF is wrong with these people? The only republicans with balls these days are the women.
This argument is pure pantomime. Dems want to grow government and don’t care if we don’t pay for it. Repubs want to not pay for it, but don’t want to discuss the size of the government.
If government costs twice what it brings in, it is twice the size it should be. Until that is on the table for discussion, then its a phony argument between those who want to hit the wall at 100 mph and those who want to hit it at 99.9 mph.
Actually....couldn’t we just raise $999? Just to make a point?
possibly linking the debt ceiling to future talks aimed at reaching a major deficit deal...
Yeah, since we can’t get anywhere in negotiations now we’ll do it later after further proving willingness to cave in. Couldn’t the GOP at least pretend they oppose Obama’s policies. Oh wait, the GOP has always supported leftist policies except for that Reagan blip in history and a few year residual effect afterward. It seems that 4 years of a New World Order Republican and 8 years of a compassionate conservative have completely erased Reagan’s legacy.

I agree, totally spineless
Of course it’s temporary. The first didn’t last long until the second came along and now the third one is on the way.
Future talks-—future budget cuts-—NEVER HAPPEN!!! Wake up Mr Ryan.
I have lost all respect for the republican party. I am all for fighting for my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and and beyond that.
My dad’s generation (WWII) fought to make the world free and returned to work and give us a better America than what they had.
Now we are supposed to party and leave the bill for our children and theirs.
Every time I see a rat with a child around him/her, I
understand that they are a prop that will in time hate the one that used them.
My offspring should not have to pay my bills.
