Trying to Find a Good HTML Web Hosting Site

I am trying to find a good web hosting site where I can start a very basic, very simple, website using HTML. I'll probably upgrade to a better programming language later, but for I'm not much of a programming geek. HTML is about all I can muster the neurons to learn.

It can be a free site, it can be a paid site. I just want something I can dump my HTML files to and not have difficulty doing so.

I pay about $8 per month for dreamhost which gives me unlimited domains, unlimited users, and now unlimited space (I have been there for a while). If you want, I can set you up with a shell account (you provide a domain name). Just freepmail.

Keep the html files on your own pc while you are learning and serve them to yourself with Apache at localhost.

When you get it all to work you can transfer the files to a real host.

If you’re teaching yourself HTML, be sure to learn how to span columns and rows within a table. Lots of designers nest tables within other tables. It’s lazy design work that makes editing the page difficult later.

For a beginner it would be safer to find a webhost, especially if he’s using Windows. If a zero-day vulnerability comes out for Apache someone could get root control of his computer.

You would have to copy and paste the code into their HTML widget, though. It’s not FTP. But you can immediately host from there for free.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish. I’m kind of in the same boat and started building a few websites in the last two years.

1and1.com and bluehost.com are two of the largest web hosts in the industry. On past threads like yours these sites have had the most votes.

They not only handle corporate websites, but have a rage of templates and other helpful tools and instruction for novice website builders.

Pffft...No it isn't. Both techniques can be used depending on the situation. I use them both and I do not consider myself "lazy".

And I don't see how it is more difficult when you have clearly marked /table/ tags that give you a better sense of where you are within the table. Provides you with sort of a "break" as your mind wraps around the raw code. It's way harder to sift through dozens of /td/ and /tr/ tags as the tables become more and more complicated.

In the end, if the page looks the way you want it, you've done a good job.

Regardless of who you choose for a hosting provider, I urge you to check this out for designing a simple page. You can make an awesome looking webpage with very little HTML whatsoever. It's called Bootstrap, and it was designed by the Twitter team that found themselves creating new services for internal use, but wanted to stop reinventing the wheel of creating a UI for each individual project:
