Went into the grocery store last night to pick up a few things, and happened to glance at the magazine display.
What I saw on the cover of Drive really caught my eye, so I looked at the magazine.
There is an automotive custom design group called Blastolene, that is doing some really crazy, beautiful stuff, equal parts rat rod, Buck Rogers and alternative historical fantasy with a steampunk edge to it.
The YouTube video is the best example I could find since the current issue of the magazine doesn't seem to be available online yet.
It features the head of Blastolene, Randy Grub, talking to Jay Leno about their Deco Liner, a completely custom built and very wild art deco RV with a functional flying bridge. 455 Olds engine, 73 GMC motorhome frame and suspension.
Jay takes it for a spin, lol.
Many more of these vehicles can be seen at http://www.blastolene.com
You should see their B-702, obviously inspired by the classic DeLaHaye roadsters of the thirties, but taken to a whole ‘nother level, lol. V-12, just amazing.

Unless Barry is driving his nice Jaguar XJ-8, he almost always has some kind of hot rod or custom vehicle. I assume the producers of the show arrange those for him.
Awesome. Thanks for posting. I must have just wasted an hour on the Blastolene site looking at all the photos of their builds!
I didn’t “get” rat rods for a while but I do now. The flat paint and intentional DIY-ness of them took some getting accustomed. VW Beetles are a popular make and model here, outside of the cobbled old iron.
Thanks for posting that pic, I’m on a mobile device and it’s a challenge.
Which was your favorite? I ended up enjoying the “Blown Ranger” the most, it sent me back to childhood and all the Barris custom Hotwheels, models and TV show cars.
It’s a rare thing for the real thing to be better proportioned than the CGI rendering. Whoever was responsible has a very good eye.
Those old dual cowl bi-level buses are still seen on the road around here, gospel groups.
On the “storage wars is fake” thread awhile ago I had to do a search to see if Barry’s cars were his or not. Looks like he owns a bunch/most of them - and motorcyles. Seems Barry earned his millions in the grocery produce import/export business!
The episode with the Decoliner had the designer/builder (Grub) in it as well - so I imagine it was just on loan (good promo for Grub).
Here’s a link with some photos of Barry’s cars. Lots of annoying ads, but my software protection didn’t warn me of anything bad.

M47 Patton Tank Engine!
Leno bought that one, didn’t he? The Blastolene Tank car?
On March 25, 2012 it was announced that Barry Weiss will be getting his own A&E spin off show called What Are You Worth?. Casting has just begun for What Are You Worth which will feature Barry helping cash strapped families make extra money. Further details on the show have not been released yet but insiders expect it to be similar to ABCs Extreme Makeover series which helps families by providing them with entire new homes.
