Fewer young men in the US want to get married than ever, while the desire for marriage is rising among young women, according to the Pew Research Center.
Pew recently found that the number of women 18-34 saying that having a successful marriage is one of the most important things rose from 28 percent to 37 percent since 1997. The number of young adult men saying the same thing dropped from 35 percent to 29 percent in the same time.
Pew’s findings have caught the attention of one US writer who maintains that feminism, deeply entrenched in every segment of the culture, has created an environment in which young men find it more beneficial to simply opt out of couple-dom entirely.
Suzanne Venker’s article, “The War on Men,” which appeared on the website of Fox News in late November, has become a lodestone for feminist writers who have attacked her position that the institution of marriage is threatened, not enhanced, by the supposed gains of the feminist movement over the last 50 years.
“Where have all the good (meaning marriageable) men gone?” is a question much talked about lately in the secular media, Venker says, but her answer, backed up by statistics, is not to the liking of mainstream commentators influenced by feminism.
She points out that for the first time in US history, the number of women in the workforce has surpassed the number of men, while more women than men are acquiring university degrees.
“The problem? This new phenomenon has changed the dance between men and women,” Venker wrote. With feminism pushing them out of their traditional role of breadwinner, protector and provider – and divorce laws increasingly creating a dangerously precarious financial prospect for the men cut loose from marriage – men are simply no longer finding

To me it is about the kids, if a father really stood a 50/50 chance of keeping his children, then it would be better.
Unfortunately the father stands no chance of keeping the kids.
Damn shame.
Women don’t want to get married until their late 30s now and too often would rather raise prized (and dressed) pets than children.
The goal was to destroy the "patriarchy". End result is as intended.
You posted what you did in reaction to my original post in which I stated my biases about men who engage in serial marriages. What kind of come-back did you expect?
I had no reference to your mother, whom I am sure was a fine woman and a great mother to you. And it had nothing to do with her as a choice. Women are usually not the problem in these situations. I did, and you picked up on the tone correctly, not think much of your father’s marrying six women in a lifetime. He was probably a fine man in other respects but one has to wonder about his marrying one woman after another. Too bad you can’t understand that.
As I said, I meant no disrespect to your parents. I had only reference to your father’s marital record.
With that caveat, I submit my apology to you.
There’s no shame at all in voluntary celibacy. Especially in these times, young people should learn it’s an option as opposed to the garbage they learn from Hollywood and the public education system.
Many of them aren’t even qualified to raise pets, let alone children.
And the majority of the men who wish to become fathers would prefer a younger woman who has less problems with her fertility.
I worry for my son. He meets many local girls and says it is dificult to find a nice girl who isnt expecting the world. Boys who date in our area are expected to pony up expensive , 200 dollar or more gifts every four to six weeks.
How does one tell one’s son, kid, you need to meet women in Asia?

Ah, y’all just don’t like that someone broke the “code talk”.
hit a nerve cause I basically said that y’all are starting to sound like Muslims, and want to be Masters.
As for my “canine and feline” children. Well, I never have to worry about them stealing my stuff or calling me to bail them out of jail.

You’ve heard about the Godwin’s Law? There oughta be an equivalent law referring to mentions of Sharia Law as unbreakable arguments in Internet discussions.
Because no one here except you has argued for Sharia Law. However, the article as well as the posters, have noted serious changes in the society over the past 50 years that you wish to deny while you “feel sorry” for our Aunts. Our Aunts, by the way, do appreciate your concern and say to you “Thank you too much!”

These were men in their 50’s-—that was depressing-—it means they grew up in the same country I did but took a hard Left turn.

That is an enormously ignorant and callous statement.
“Gun shy”, please. What kind of a fool would enter into a civil contract where at any time the other party can make a criminal complaint against you in order to have you arrested, take your children from you, evict you from your dwelling, terminate the civil contract, take half of your assets and garnish your wages?
From that starting point you must defend yourself by enjoining a highly-developed revolving door legal-government industry dedicated to extracting money from families via criminal, civil and tort prosecution.
If you’re lucky you can defend the civil suits after you’ve dismissed the criminal allegations. In the end the majority of your assets will be controlled by lawyers, government and your ex-partner in that order.
