“If things ever get to where you can’t get that gelcap any more, maybe see if you can manage 10-20 minutes in the very early morning sun, with as much skin exposed as you feel comfortable with? Just as a backup.”

I’ll let JRandomFreeper take the sun for me - he likely gets up early and I don’t, plus he likes to be nude except for the “fiddly bits” he has mentioned. He has trouble finding his pants/trousers all the time anyway. After a party, they are usually on the roof of a house where the party is. He shouldn’t have any trouble getting that sun for me and he can email it to me.

“Cucumber slushies are amazing on a sore throat.”

Thanks for posting that - it's a water thickener so should be fine.

Canning Chicken Breasts and Fish myself tonight ... almost have my freezer emptied and ready to defrost.

Can’t wait for the opportunity to go fishing and re-fill that puppy.

I found a really good plan for a root cellar/fallout/storm shelter for farmers that was dated back in the 60’s. Lost the link though, and have not been able to find it again.

You would think that they would at least have something. Our city’s are more likely than ever to have some sort of suitcase bomb smuggled in, and I’ll bet no one has ever bothered to tell any of our children, don’t look, duck and cover and why.

People located 25 miles away still have to worry about fallout for at least 2 weeks. When the soviet union collapsed, everyone was talking about a peace dividend.

I was thinking are you crazy? The world just got more dangerous since they had lost control of some of the nuclear facilities. People stealing stuff and selling it to rogue nations etc.

One durn time... well dozens, and no-one is gonna let me forget.

I'm actually sorta sun-shy because of the skin cancer thing. Moonlight doesn't count for Vit. D, unfortunately.

A couple of favorites for cold, flu, or sore throat. I like hot tea - Put a bit of cinammon bark and cloves in the water and bring it to boiling.

Add the tea and steep. Using a tea that lists rose hips as the first ingredient is good too. Rose hips have lots of vitamin C. Rosa Rugosa is the plant to grow to get huge marble sized rose hips.

Then add a little honey and lemon juice. Pretty soothing.

I also like to drink homemade chicken broth, though I will use chicken base if I don’t have the homemade stuff.

I take a multiple vitamin and vitamin D3 during the winter as preventatives, and add vitamin C caps and fluids at the first sniffle.

Oh yeh, liqueor. I forgot. My mom used to make the worlds most potent cough medicine. Rock candy, lemon juice and whiskey.

Burned all the way down, but boy it was worth it. Knocked the coughing for a loop - better or as good as terpenhydrate and codeine.

“The Kerville hospital can’t handle all the flu patients so are sending new patients to Fredericksburg.”

My friends in the Texas Hill Country go to Kerville to shop or to Boerne. She is aware of how much flu is around them and they are staying home. Her husband is a heart patient and it would be terrible if he got the flu.

I saw those meds, although I didn’t purchase any they appear to be a decent buy if the expiration date wasn’t too soon. (which I didn’t check)

So far, I’ve been lucky with the canned goods:

“AMEN”

Thanks for the AMEN. I don’t know why others of our various families are “bothered” by our prepping. It seems to make them uncomfortable. Well, we will just keep prepping and feeling good about it.

Milk freezes well too. It’s another short-term alternative if you have the freezer space. Somehow the freezing makes the milk proteins turn slightly more yellow than before, but it tastes just the same, perfectly fine.
