Two days before Notre Dame will face off against Alabama in college footballs national championship game, the Washington Post has published a pieceShould American Catholics cheer for old Notre Dame?in which author Michael Leahy discusses his understanding of how Catholics might view the game and expresses his belief that the Catholic Church is dogmatic, frustrating change and stifling dissent.
Leahy explains why he and some other Catholics, who were friends of his when he grew up in Southern California in the 1960s, rooted against Notre Dame. Their attitude toward Notre Dames football team, he said, was influenced by their views on such things as abortion rights.
Now, he says, Notre Dame is attracting resentment from politically moderate Catholics because it has sued the Obama administration over the administrations contraception mandate. This is the administration regulation that seeks to force Notre Dame and other Catholic institutionsas well as Catholic business owners and individualsto pay for health-care plans that cover sterilizations, contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs, all of which violate the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Sounds exactly like the DemocRAT Party.
Leahy is another whiny, baby boomer with no moral compass. And, exactly what kind of kid American roots for or against a teambecause of religious views? What a creep! I blame Vatican II, lax parenting and a lust for instant gratification for the likes of this slob.
To the Washington Compost: It’s. A. Game.
The writer is parroting the old, shopworn accusation that the Church is "stifling dissent." That caricature has been turned on it's head: by opposing Obama's contraceptive mandate, the Catholic Church IS dissenting from the "status quo".
Alas, we appear to be rapidly moving into a dark and dangerous phase of Western Civilization where true "dissent" from evil will be ruthlessly suppressed, all for "the greater good." We read: "In fact, a time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing God a favor.." (John 16:2)
It’s a friggin’ football FCOL! The use of a football game to promote an agenda by the left is disgusting
Catholic Church is that way because God is that way. God offers forgiveness but not change.
Notre Dame is a Catholic school?...wow, learn something new every day!
You sure they aren’t talking about Bammer fans worshipping “The B’ar”?
I didn’t know the WaPo stuck its nose into theological affairs of churches. While I may disagree with some of the Catholic practices, at least I respect their right to worship however they see fit. Freedom of religion used to be thought of as a right. Some fishwrap of a paper downgrading a church holds little weight in my book.
Merely a strengthening of the leftist agenda. They feel free to do this more often now after the “re-election”. Just another sign of the USSA . . .
May the Stars and Bars be prominently waved!
While there are some individual Catholics who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and are saved, the Roman Catholic Church itself is not Christian. It is, in fact, a Mystery Babylon religion hiding behind a facade of Christianity.
