The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
We got just over 4" here NW of Austin. I don't know where you live, but carrots are OK in the garden if there is not much chance of freezing when they are small.
Lettuce, radishes and beets should be planted directly in the garden now. Cover them if the temps get close to 30.
Just below Waco. I’ll do the beets and radishes and cover them. Thanks for the info.
How about a row of 50 gallon barrels connected by a pipe hidden somewhere around the house. As a barrel fills it will begin piping into the barrel connected by a pipe. Just an idea.
OOOPS, didn’t realize you lived on a golf course. But I’ve caught up with the suggestions and they are all good.
I’ve thought about several barrels in one area. I have to get rid of some Nandina plants. If I’d know how useless that stuff is, I’d have pulled every single plant when we moved here. It’s worse than Johnson grass.
As far as planting veggies, you can do that now. My turnip and radish seed were old and only a few came up. I need to get some fresh seeds this year. Lettuce should be OK in the garden.
Thank you Arrowhead. Our collards and turnip greens in the community garden are going like gangbusters. We have a few families taking advantage of them. I like that.
I have some turnip seeds, beets and always, radishes, all colors and we love french radishes at breakfast, when we have scrambled eggs and smoked herring.
