MASSIVELY excellent things are afoot. As Lewis would have put it to his Narnian friends, “Aslan is on the move!”

Which means we have to keep a weather eye out for the Lady in the Green Kirtle. She will ever try to tell us there really is no sun, we have just invented a more glorious lamp.

:)) laughing

I know, I know! The correct construction is, "There is not a book in our library with which I would want to part."

Eeewww. Snooty tooty!

My trick is to just completely re-write the sentence. “There is not a book in my library I wouldn’t miss.”

I rarely miss a book I’ve donated. I must just have good judgment for my purges! Once in a great while I go looking for something I gave away ... but if it turns out to be important, I can check it out from the library.

I got Richard Burton’s “The Tents of Midian” from Dover with my last order of coloring books. We needed something to bring the total up to ... whatever ... for the free shipping. I’m having fun with “Arabesque Floral Patterns” and “Art Nouveau Animal Designs.”

We've misplaced our copy of "QB VII." I'm disappointed about that. I hope it turns up somewhere.

We didn't purge it, we just misplaced it.

That happens here, too. I sometimes offer a cash reward ;-). Currently there is money available for whoever finds Tom's "Materials Science" notebook and the "#12" package of Envirothon vocabulary cards. I know that both are somewhere in our house ... along with a basselope, the Holy Grail, and my marbles.

A More Glorious Lamp, indeed, and One by which ALL may see, and MANY may come to agree with Emeth, the Calormen warrior, who discovered on entering Aslan’s country that, “I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now.”

Ah, the basselope and a wish for wings that work ... those were the days.

These days I have to look for "Pearls Before Swine" for my fix of random acts of strange humor.

We start our fast (Lent) on February 13. At my present rate of weight loss, I’ll be incorporeal by Easter ;-).

I learned about the Azusa Revival when I became involved in the Charismatic Renewal in Tulsa, 2000 or so. (Between Elen and Sally.) There are huge movements of the Spirit happening in many places, but we learn so little about them from the general media ... just as we won’t hear anything about the national March for Life, in spite of hundreds of thousands’ turning out in cruddy weather. “Never happened,” say the national media. “Everyone is pro-abortion, we all know that.”

Actually, I think it's time I re-read "The Last Battle." While trying to find whether it was "farther" or "further" I found quite a few good quotes. Here's a real corker:

"There! You see!" said the Ape. "It's all arranged. And all for your own good. We'll be able, with the money you earn, to make Narnia a country worth living in. There'll be oranges and bananas pouring in–and roads and big cities and schools and offices and whips and muzzles and saddles and cages and kennels and prisons–Oh, everything."

"But we don’t want all those things," said an old Bear. "We want to be free. And we want to hear Aslan speak himself."

"Now don’t you start arguing," said the Ape, "for it's a thing I won't stand. I'm a Man: you’re only a fat, stupid old Bear. What do you know about freedom? You think freedom means doing what you like. Well, you’re wrong. That isn't true freedom. True freedom means doing what I tell you."

It’s almost as if C.S. Lewis had been paying attention to what was going on around the world during his lifetime! And them same for J.R.R. Tolkien, as well. I’d rather we all paid attention to them, rather than to Ayn Rand, because they identified the problems just as clearly, but didn’t encourage the totally wrong response.

Our pastors think this wave will be different. You won't have to go find it, it will come find everyone who has a heart to be a part of it.

Evil has crossed a great line when atheists put a billboard up in Times Square calling Santa Claus real and Jesus a myth. God will not allow that to stand for long. First He will be merciful and give one loud, long last call for all who will to come to him.

Then Babylon the Great will descend with her hoards, and there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Even that will be designed to turn men's hearts toward God, but many will shake their fists at Him instead. They will be invited to the feast, but they will refuse to go.

Seek the LORD while He may be found.

Well, I'm off.

Those of you who are prayers, please pray for the play to touch hearts again tonight. The altar call will happen sometime around 8:45 if you want to pick a time. But don't worry about that. God is out of time and will hear you at exactly the right time.

I hope your pastors are right! Here’s a quote from the Psalms that I read today in my early morning (up at 4:30 today) time with the Bible:

“The promises of the LORD are promises that are pure: silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. Do thou, O LORD, protect us, guard us ever from this generation. On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the sons of men.” (Ps. 12: 6-8, RSV)

I keep having to set my alarm earlier to beat the arrival of children ;-). Pat was there before 5:30 today, scouting breakfast.

“I’d rather we all paid attention to them, rather than to Ayn Rand, because they identified the problems just as clearly, but didn’t encourage the totally wrong response.”

Is THAT not the Truth!

The righteous Conservatism of our Founders leads a man — ultimately — to the Cross.

The secular Conservatism of Ayn Rand leads — ultimately — to the ancient, failed anarchy of Judges 21:25, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

The difference between the two cannot be overstated.

The first leads to a society blessed with equanimity and peace; the latter — well, go read “Lord of the Flies.”

The first leads to a society blessed with equanimity and peace; the latter — well, go read “Lord of the Flies.”

What our government wants for everyone: the war of all against all, with manufactured factions competing for handouts from the owners. This is the destiny of "natural" man. Only heroic self-sacrifice is a Win: "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

We know this naturally, because only heroic self-sacrifice creates the universal classic literature. Carping self-interest is immediately gone, dust to dust.

How are you this afternoon? We have 26 degrees and on-and-off freezing rain. The city has largely shut down: the South doesn’t handle winter weather very successfully! When we lived in Rhode Island, they didn’t close the schools unless there was 3 feet of snow on the ground by noon, and no sign of a letup!
