The author may have stopped a burglary. Thugs work in teams one goes in the house to hunt for stuff and the other stands outside to keep watch.
That would explain the door being open and the older car in a nice neighborhood.
There would be considerable irony in that.
As I posted on an earlier thread: Someone should post pictures of all the employees kids, and the schools they attend.
