Its the Little Things That Matter: 100 Survival Items To Help Keep A Sense of Normality and Sanity After the Collapse
Bullets
check. Beans
check. Band Aids
check. The list goes on and on sometimes doesnt it? As preppers, we all are stockpiling the items and supplies that we plan on needing if and when it hits the fans. We all need to make sure we can eat, drink, protect ourselves from the elements and defend what needs to be defended. However, today I found myself thinking of things that werent on my Need in order to survive list. Little things that we all take for granted today, but someday, we may look back and think how simple it would have been to pick up a couple of those items when they are no longer on a store shelf near you.

Preppers’ PING!!
The following is a link to a article (10 Morale Boosters for Any Worst Case Scenario) I wrote for our own ChocChipCookie (Lisa Bedford) blog ‘The Survival Mom’, which relates to this subject.

What exactly happened last night? Where are my pants? Why is there a law-enforcement badge on the coffee table?
I think I had a happy new year. We'll see after the warrants are issued.

Chew some willow bark! Such whining is beneath the dignity of a Mountain Man such as yourself! You’ll embarrass yourself at rendezvous! ;-)
Happy New Year Johnny!
I found aspirin. Still nothing on the pants, but they'll show up... eventually.
Happy New Year, Kart. May God bless you and yours in the upcoming year.

I’ve been concerned about nightly “entertainment”.
If we don’t have power, we’ll have to get by without a video, online game, or the internet.
I’ve stocked crossword puzzle books (and pencils), playing cards (both regular and pinocle), jigsaw puzzles, dice. Have enough of each to use for barter, as well.
From my experience, doing the late 1800s lifestyle thing, after an early start, and a long day, entertainment consists of checking my eyelids for thin spots whilst laying on a cot.

Stock up on Kosher salt as well...
There are a number of ‘Off Grrid’ Charging systems for small electronic devices like tablets and smart phones. You might look into those.
We have ‘em, thanks!
Already done, thanks!
I have a simple but most effective exercise device..a TRX trainer. Invented by a Navy Seal using parachute straps, it is simple, effective and exercises every major (and minor) muscle group. Totally portable. We’ll need to stay in shape. :-). You can hang the thing on a tree branch or other means.

I know why I am up at this hour (sore back from three weeks of unpacking boxes and moving furniture) but what is your excuse?
Don’t forget soap/shampoo/detergent . . .
If you’re going to get a bb rifle, get a bb-pellet rifle with a serious pump. A good multi-stroke pump rifle can get almost to .22LR velocity. This means it is good enough for game birds and squirrels. Set the kids to hunting small game.
You can significantly cut down on your TP use by using the Asiatic method of cleaning yourself first. That is, by passively washing first with an enema bag, which will remove most of the filth and leave you cleaner. Then use just a few sheets of TP to dry off and get any residual.
A microscope is essential, with a minimum of a 10x eyepiece and 100x objective lens for a total power of 1000x. You will also need India ink to stain the slide before you add a tiny droplet of water to see if it is contaminated with living bacteria. If it has anything living in it, do not eat or drink it without cooking.
High ground, telescopes and a few hand mirrors gives you long distance area surveillance.
Not in the realm of entertainment, but comfort for you and sanity for your cook.
Boric acid for safe bug control. Mix with sugar to make a syrup for ants and other crawly critters. Some dollar store have it relatively cheap.
Diatomaceous earth, food grade used for deworming dogs and cats, as well as for use in chicken houses. Be rid of bed bugs, fleas, ants, roaches, parasites. Sprinkle around your foundation for whole house control. Used widely to keep bugs from invading stored grain and beans.
Neither of these item should ever go bad, but you will be seen as an angel if you have a supply of these after the SHTF.
Check!
“A microscope is essential,....”
Never thought about that - but it makes sense. Got an old one from college - considered tossing it but may come in handy down-the-road.
