Jets start Greg McElroy, bench Mark Sanchez
The Washington Post ^ | December 18, 2012 | Cindy Boren

New York Jets Coach Rex Ryan wasn’t saying who his starting quarterback would be after Mark Sanchez’s ineffectiveness Monday night, but by Tuesday afternoon he was ready for a for a change.

Greg McElroy, the second-year QB out of Alabama, will start Sunday against the San Diego Chargers rather than his other option, Tim Tebow, the guy the Jets traded for in March. The news was first reported by Rich Cimini of ESPN New York and Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Tebow played six snaps in the loss that crushed the Jets’ playoff hopes Monday night. McElroy has played in one game this season, the Jets’ 7-6 victory over Arizona on Dec. 2. He completed 5 of 7 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown in that game.

Earlier Tuesday, Cimini had tweeted that Ryan was still discussing the decision with the staff, but that it looked “like [it'll be] McElroy. However, Tebow [is] still involved in equation. This could be weird.”

The anti-Tebow comments come from the hopeless anti-christian bigots here. They neither understand nor like football, but they live for the chance to diss a Christian.

It would be better for them if they attempted to conceal their contempt. The guy has done nothing to earn it.

What all of this means is that football coaches are unable by-and-large to think beyond a predefined scheme.

Tebow has talent that most coaches do not know how to utilize, therefore it is Tebow’s fault.

Bad Tebow, bad, bad.

Its about the $$ - coaches are risk averse. Its also why offenses have become so boring & prevent defense is still commonly employed. IMO

I'm relatively certain that management is asking themselves the same question...

Interesting. McElroy was the Alabama QB who made Florida’s Tim Tebow cry at the end of the 2009 SEC Championship game.

Hall of Fame? Seriously? The only way he’ll end up in the HoF is by buying a ticket...

I dreamed that Mark Sanchez threw 4 interceptions when he had time to get rid of the ball.

Have you actually watched him play? It’s painful.

From http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/mike-freeman/21420270/still-not-starting-tebow-feels-jets-misled-him

“So some of this was Rex Ryan’s ego. He thought he could mold Tebow into a good quarterback but now Ryan sees what the Broncos discovered: that it’s an impossible mission.”

Why would they know? He’s taken less than 40 snaps this year.

I don’t get it...what happened with Tebow? From the top...why did the Broncos get rid of him? Why won’t the Jets give him a chance?

What else did you dream last night?

I dreamed I saw four interceptions thrown by Sanchez.

Bottom line: The Jets loss finished off their season; they have no chance of getting into the playoffs. When that happens, coaches make decisions with next season in mind.

Don't know if next year's QB will be Mcelroy or Tebow, but it looks like Sanchez won't be there.

The Tebow situation reminds me of the scene in the movie "Heaven Can Wait" where Warren Beatty tries to become the new quarterback of the team his body owns. The coaches and players look down on him, and the offensive line purposely lets the defense through to tackle him before he can prove himself in practice.

I think the Jets have been purposely undermining Tebow because they don't want him to have the opportunity where he could possibly succeed.

In fact, last night the Jets offense wasn't giving Garcia the protection he needed, either.

I didn’t read down far enough to see your post. Mine was almost identical. I supposed I’ll get flagged for piling on.

That wasn’t Sanchez’s fault. Their was another team out there looking to help out his completion stats.
