Yeah....we need a pat on the back? Can’t we wait until we’ve completely F’d up the country before we celebrate. Can we do anything right?

Great, we made it. Now we get to see what a totalitarian state looks like, and mourn that our children will not have the same freedoms we had.

In retrospect, we didn't make it. We forgot the lessons of our youth and took the easy way out way too often. As long as we had jobs and money, we looked the other way at the fall of our country. Meanwhile, those who hate us used our good nature and freedom against us. And now we are shackled by them. There is no way to untangle this Gordian knot, save one.

Agreed. Look what the Baby Boomers (Of which I’m one of) left us as a society.

On the bright side, there doesn’t seem much that the baby boomer generation created that will last much beyond their existence.

I cannot see radio stations playing the beatles, 100 years from now.

A man I know who is about 90 years old told me that he cringes every time he hears the term “Greatest Generation” applied to he and his WWII generation. He says that a generation should be measured on the children they produce. He says that HIS PARENTS, the WWI generation, were the greatest generation because they produced the WWII generation. But the WWII generation produced Woodstock.

What did us baby boomers produce? Disco?

New Wave music, the foundations of video games, Punk-Rock, the re-election of Ronald Reagan in 1984, Synth Pop, Live Aid, the Yuppie movement....much more than just Disco. In my opinion inter-generational warfare is nonsense, and I am saying this as a 26 year old with a olive branch to my elders. The baby boom generation may have had people like Bill Ayers and Angela Davis in their ranks but I’ve also heard that they gave Nixon more of the vote than McGovern in 1972 even though McGovern pandered to disaffected youth voters who were disillusioned by the Vietnam war and angry about the draft.

The only question is how come we remained as a stable country through the race riots, the extreme divisiveness over Vietnam, and the radicals of the 60s to the coverup of Watergate and the failures of Jimmy Carter? Perhaps the answer, as a poster on here told me, is that we are resilient as a people and we will survive whatever catastrophe Obama is a part of during his next four year term. We, the people, are the checks and balances of the government if nobody in the political realm will do it for us.
