Thanks. Looks like Holmes vs. Kirk, with a similar over voice trailer as the new Superman man of steel.

So that goofy-looking Enterprise gets destroyed. Good.

I'm a "Star Trek" fan from the beginning, but I just can't warm up to little boys commanding starships. I mean, in the future, will 25 year olds really rise up that fast in the chain of command?
Give me a Commander Kirk [and a Spock, and an Uhuru] with a little life-experience. A couple wrinkles. Just a few.
40 should be the minimum age for a starship commander.

shows Captain Kirk hit by self-doubtIt doesn't sound to me like that's Kirk hit with self-doubt. It sounds like Admiral Pike trying to talk some humility into him instead.

George Washington was a general at 22. :)
The federation is the equivalent of a navy. I may be wrong, but if you get appointed a rank due to circumstances, and do the job well, they probably won’t demote you.
But somebody, who knows better, can correct me if you can’t keep a rank that you get appointed to.

George Washington was a general at 22. :)Yeah, but, c'mon, life expectancy was about 40 then.
I'm just being a crank [but you knew that.] Even back in '69, Commander Kirk must have been pushing 40. A more mature Kirk would spark more interest from me in the new films.
But, of course, I won't go see them anyway. So, who cares?

More wussification of Star Fleet.
First they make the Captain a wimp who chooses Earl Grey Tea over Romulan Brandy (then later try to rehbilibate his machismo in a bar fight but too late) AND put a touchy-feely “counselor” (read: liberal doubter).
I was rooting for the Borg. Now I can root for the bad guy,

FWIIW, James T. Kirk was 31 when he took command of the Enterprise (according to the original canon).

Shatner’s Kirk was 34...he says so in “The Deadly Years.”
