However, it should be pointed out that the zombies are by definition already dead.
It's not "a hungry, dirty, feral child," it's a mindless living dead zombie. They ARE less human, in fact non-human.
Zombies are a perfect corollary for columns of refugees. Great training to mind numb the kids to slaughter the homeless and helpless in the Apocalypse. The visual trigger is the rags for clothing, the justification as always is that they are not fully human. (Dirty Refugees, Muzzies, Joooos, N***ers...)

He’s being very selective in how he views the show, and other zombie fiction. One of the ongoing plots of the genre is people struggling to grasp that zombies aren’t people anymore. If this is trying to desensitize us to death that trope really doesn’t make any sense, because it runs in the exact opposite direction.
Then you have to look at events in the real world. People are all freaked out over the deaths of 3 people in Oregon. If there’s been a decades long (zombie fiction ain’t new, only it’s current popularity is) attempt to make us accept death it would seem to have failed.

I don't watch any of the shows (don't have TV), and the thread is certainly not about abortion, it's about conditioning.

It’s the same reason vampires and then zombies have become so popular. Zombies and Vampires do not have legal defense funds (well, not real ones anyway) and lawyers who sue when their “constituents” are “defamed”. They can safely be used as villains for that reason. I suspect we’ll see a turn to aliens and other mythical villains once the zombie / vampire thing becomes played out.
The era of “real life” villains who are not rich, white and male pretty much ended with 24.

We are being pre-conditioned by the entertainment industry to accept death on levels so massive that they make concentration camp videos look like a Disney movie.
Isn't this exactly the same thing that liberals say when they try to ban violent video games? I wonder if the author would say about those.
I guess if I had to take it further: werewolves are the ordinary working classes, decent enough except when they lose control once in a full moon, ghosts are the middle classes (sense of property and all that), and witches are women's studies lecturers.
