unfortunately the Germans have a lot of bad terms to call them -- Hun, Fritz, Heinies, Kraut, Boche (in French "cabbage-head")

In Polish I was amused to find out that the word for Germany: Niemcy and the word for a German: Niemiec are derived from the word nem meaning "mute" -- its similar in other Slavic languages -- presumably the early Slavs came upon the Germans saying "ach, die zu" and went "Eh? What are you saying? are you unable to speak?" :-P

Oh GREAT! Thanks - I am mostly German myself, and amazingly have heard very few of those terms, though now that I thinka about it, I have heard them in some old war movies! Thanks for the response!
