Before we get into this, we'd like to apologize in advance, because we're about to give you a link to perhaps the worst article in the history of sports.
...and Whitley's article, which went up on Thursday, is as asbestos-y as anything you'll ever read. A brief example:
"San Francisco's Colin Kaepernick is going to be a big-time NFL quarterback. That must make the guys in San Quentin happy.
"Approximately 98.7 percent of the inmates at California's state prison have tattoos. I don't know that as fact, but I've watched enough "Lockup" to know it's close to accurate.
"I'm also pretty sure less than 1.3 percent of NFL quarterbacks have tattoos. There's a reason for that.
"NFL quarterback is the ultimate position of influence and responsibility. He is the CEO of a high-profile organization, and you don't want your CEO to look like he just got paroled.
I'm not sure what Kaepernick's tattoos have to do with his present or future as a starting NFL quarterback, though everybody knows that Kaepernick has been very successful with a small sample size of two NFL starts with the San Francisco 49ers. So, perhaps Whitley was looking for a different angle, and he didn't have time for stuff like interviewing, homework, or film study.

This article is so poorly written that its hard to follow, are they anti-tattoo or anti-Kaepernick?
Much higher. Assume three QBs per team. That’s a little over 80 people. I am sure quite a few more than Kaepernick have ink.
You know what I always think when I see people with a lot of visible tattoos? That they’re quite dumb and I don’t want to know them.
Would the NFL in this day and press coverage age have room for Bobby Lane or a Joe Namath etc. After all apparently a coach can not use another QB for a while without executing the prior QB. And while Bill Clinton can be president an NFL QB could not behave like that.
Does he have a tattoo of an eight ball?
I’m just glad the recent tattoo fad didn’t hit till I was in my 30s and old enough to know better.
I think they should be required to show an age progression simulation to people getting them. Gonna be some horribly disfigured elderly people in another 30 or 40 years.
The writer's a jerk.
Niners fan here. Quickly becoming a Kaepernick fan. He had a 4.2 GPA in high school and was a three-sport athlete. He pitched two no-hitters in high school, reaching 92 mph. Not bad.
Oh, and many of his tattoos are Bible verses. Adopted by what seems to be a wonderful, loving set of parents.

How is this article any more poorly written than what comes out of the AP or Reuters?

real men who served in WW2 often had tattoos....my dad had a great Navy one....
Kaepernick’s mommy needs to lighten-up and unless the tats are inhibiting the quarterback’s ability to throw a pass or read a defense, the writers need to back off.

Yep. If you wear a lot of indecipherable tattoos, you look like a thug. Unfortunately, a lot of black athletes (much more than whites) think it’s cool. But it looks like San Quentin. It looks like a bad skin disease.

Particularly among the women. Glad I won’t be around to see it. Saw a young guy on the street last week with tats covering every square inch of his face, ears, neck, arms and hands. Just can’t even imagine the mind set of someone who would even consider such a thing.
