erhaps the reporting system has improved. Or perhaps HIV cases are truly on the rise in the Philippines, as public health officials have reported. In the latest UNAIDS Report on Global AIDS Epidemic, the Philippines was one of just nine countries reporting a 25 percent increase in HIV/AIDS cases from 2001 to 2011.
The other countries are Bangladesh, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Sri Lanka, according to the report prepared by the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS. While the actual numbers are much lower in the Philippines, some African countries that have been hit hard by HIV/AIDS have recorded greater progress in fighting the disease.
In Zambia and Zimbabwe, for example, new infections declined by 50 percent in the past decade, according to the UN report. Also registering significant progress were Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, India, Malawi, Myanmar, Namibia, Rwanda, Thailand and Togo.
Health authorities attribute the rising cases in the Philippines to low condom use. The highest increase has also been noted in cases of men having unprotected sex with other men or MSM, according to the Department of Health and UNAIDS. The prevalence of the disease among MSM in key cities is 13 times higher than in the general population, health authorities report.

A few posts ago it is China, and THIS (same yahoo news ??) didn't even mention China?
I say the report is boojit and the only purpose for the "report" is to get the words 'homosexual' and HIV (I know .. it isn't a word) ... into the familiar language of the times
Is this the beginning of a global media thrust encouraged by the election of Obama to manage world news/UN agenda?

I came across an article about HIV on the rise in England. I tried to google it to find out who was carrying the story. In the process of trying to find that I found a dozens of others. It would appear that HIV/AIDS is on the rise across the world.
Oh gee I wonder why?
See post #5
African countries figured out that a rise in AIDS diagnoses equals a rise in foreign aid. Soon every tropical wasting disease was lumped under an AIDS diagnosis with not testing done. Maybe other folks are catching on.
What is diabolical is that most think its okay for these men to donate blood to the red cross. Stories like these popping up at once say it is not okay. It is far from okay. If these stats are true then these men should be no where near a blood bank.
This is proopaganda, because the gov’t is pushing family planning abortifactants birth control and condom use here, and most Catholics and Muslims don’t like the bill.
Yes, the rate is up 25 percent: But the HIV rate here (12,000) is very low next to places like Thailand, which has 250 thousand people living with HIV.
and a lot of the cases here are in overseas workers or sailors, or local gays.
If you add 1000 cases to the Philippines, you get a 10 percent increase, whereas in Thailand it’s less than 2 percent increase.
It’s called lying with statistics, and the clue they are doing it is that they don’t bother to publish the numbers involved.
actually HIV is not on the rise, but has stablized in most countries. If you take anti retroviral medicines, you aren’t very infectious. This, along with promotion of monogamy/polygamy and premarital abstinence has lowered the increase in Africa (condoms don’t work in Africa: they aren’t used and many break due to the heat etc).
The anti retroviral medicines have especially been valuable to lower the rate in children (since breastfeeding is essential in these countries, they now don’t stop breast feeding to stop the spread to the baby, they just give mom the medicines and usually the baby is okay).
However, the promotion of gay sex in the US and parts of Europe has resulted in a lot of gay teenagers from getting HIV...they know about safe sex, but presumably they are having sex with older infected guys.
And, of course, it’s taboo in the US to promote self control in sex, even though we docs do it all the time when we advise people on diet exercize and smoking...(sarcasm off)
Thank you. You’ve done an excellent job of explaining the situation.
Yea I have a feeling the numbers are a little up but they are fudging them (no pun intended).
I also have a feeling it won’t be long before they will be crying for more money to ‘fix’ this problem.
