I recently moved from London to Los Angeles. Despite the fact that LA is the undisputed worst place in the entire world, I've been trying super hard to like it. Mainly because I like being that guy who likes the thing everyone else hates just to annoy people (which reminds me, people I know in real life: I never really liked Skrillex or Twilight. You should've seen your faces though).

RE: I know LA sucks. I live here.
You actually live IN L.A.? THE CITY ITSELF?
Why not move to the suburbs then? There are lots of nice places around the Los Angeles area within driving distance.
Douche bags who move to L.A. and make a bunch of pronouncements based on the stereotypes that they brought with them are even worse . . .
I lived in OC in the 90’s - same thing then too.
I once went with a friend who was a Hollywood producer to the Hollywood producer in charge of the first X-MEN movie. Our conversation was as follows:
Producer: So what have you done?
Me: Excuse me?
Producer: Well, OK, what are you trying to do? Acting? Done extra work?
Me: Nope, I’m finishing up my English degree and want to go to Japan to live.
Producer: Huh? So you’re not an actor?
Me: Why would I want to be an actor?
Producer: Good point.
He then became a really fun guy to talk to.
Strip away both coasts, and the USA would be a nice country.
Irvine is cool....and I’m from Texas.
Yes I live in the city. Moving is easier said than done, as I am a homeowner. Yes there are some very nice suburbs, most out of my price range. Most of the other suburbs resemble the city itself. Many suburbs are even worse.
My uncle moved to California right after WWII. I visited LA many times from the 1980’s onwards, and what you say is true.
He’s gone now, but his stories about the space, the sun and the economy of SoCal back in the 1950’s-1970’s compared to what exists now almost make one want to cry...
Los Angeles stinks, but New York City and Northern Jersey suck more.. We used to live in the L.A., now live just outside it. The taxes are as high in NYC (or higher), it costs an arm and leg to live there (New York City) and the weather stinks. Oh, and about those natural disasters... Does “Sandy” do it for you?
My brother lives in Hoboken, and the National Guard made him move out during the flood. Sea water, feces, and petroleum waste. Ugh. Had to go to downtown frigid Philly to live in a hotel to come back to a rent controlled apartment which literally is full of sh*t.
My daughter goes to grad school at Columbia and can’t wait to get back to California.
Just another nasty mouthed brit who likes to rank on everything. Take a hike.
I knew a man who once lived in LA and NYC, and traveled back and forth between the two, and he told me something I’ve since found to be quite true. he said you could good friends with someone on the West Coast for years, and never realy know what they thought about you, but you couldn’t meet a stranger in NYC and not know exactly what they thought of you within minutes.
You wont find a more “wretched hive of scum and villainy” than San Francisco though.
If it weren’t for all the publicly naked homosexuals, homeless heroin junkies, flagrantly abusive and aggressive panhandlers, obnoxious liberals, and self-important hipsters, I would LOVE to live in San Francisco.
LA is a fine place to call home as long as you live in Malibu or Manhattan Beach and never have to leave.
LA was the greatest place to live when.....
Reagan was governor
Yorty was mayor
Dornan was congressman
Parker and later Gates were the police chiefs.
The liberals ruin everything they touch. LA is no exception. Villaraigosa has turned the place into a gigantic slum.
NYC’s a fantastic place, and a Columbia gal should be in her element.
What, did you raise a Valley girl? ;-)
It’s shocking how many people go to Hollywood and walk around.. They have NO CLUE just how dangerous that place is. When I was much younger I was there with friends and heard five gun shots down the side street from where we were. Hollywood is like Arby’s; Looks great on the posters but tastes like SH!T.
NYC is a fantastic place if you can afford it. She is a Columbia gal alright: grad student up to her eyeballs in student loans. She works full time to pay for her postage stamp apt near campus and goes to school at night. She would get her doctorate there, except it would cost her a cool $250K.
Right now, she is looking at working on finding work after her masters' and work on her Phd, back in California. She is without a doubt one of the hardest working girls I know. Yep, a real valley girl :)
I can easily list a few worse Cities
Port-Au-Prince should recalibrate her gratitude meter
London was the best city in the world in which to live - maybe thirty years ago.
