Residents of a Commerce City, Colorado neighborhood say police went too far when they shot a dog on Saturday.
The moments before the dog was shot to death were recorded by a neighbor on a cell phone.
When Kenny Collins called police about an unfamiliar dog loose in his neighborhood, he had no idea his neighbor was dog sitting for a relative.
He had no idea it would end with the dog dead.
"I called police because I saw a dog wandering loose out front," Collins said.
Collins' neighbor was watching a large breed dog for her cousin who was out of town for the holidays. The woman, who did not want to comment at this time, said she left the 3-year-old dog named Chloe in the garage when she left to go shopping. She thought she closed the garage upon leaving, but it seems the dog tripped the sensor forcing the garage door open. That's when Chloe started roaming the neighborhood.
"He never came at me in an aggressive manner," Collins said.
He said he never feared the dog, but just wanted animal control to pick it up since it was loose. But, when two police officers arrived, things took a different turn. Collins' son shot video with a cell phone of the whole incident.
"He's basically back in the garage or whatever, staying away from police," Collins said.
Collins said for about 30 minutes, the dog just sat inside the open garage door near her bed while officers decided what to do.

Here’s a crazy idea... grab a piece of meat, toss it to the dog to eat, walk inside the garage, tap the garage button, and walk out as the garage door closes.
Muslims and dhimmi’s hate dogs.
Earlier in my career I spent a number of years doing comprehensive psychological evaluations of applicants to local police forces. Your statement is false, and I challenge whether any such "study" ever existed. Lots of psychologists are liberal morons, to be sure, and may hold that private opinion, but there is no study characterizing police officers this way.
Are there bad cops? Of course. We sometimes rendered a "do not hire" recommendation to our departments. They universally followed this guidance in the small number of cases where it was indicated. So what happened to these psychological rejects? They got jobs with departments that didn't bother using serious psychological evaluations.
;-\
There are too many anecdotes like this to be ignored. Either there is something wrong with modern police training, or the pool of applicants isn’t what it should be.

Some lady made a good point on here once. Helicopter Moms terrorize kids about so many things that a lot of us grow up afraid of dogs.
And a lot of people are mentally ill and fear and despise animals.
When I was a kid, when a dog would wander onto the playground, the school would hustle us indoors and call the dog catcher. I'm sure it's worse now. I always protested and I'm sure that went on my record.
You know, seeing as pretty much any delivery service will bring food to your doorstep in well under 30 minutes, that sounds pretty smart. Guess you’re not a public employee.
One less loyal friend and protector.
That is one of the more disgusting dog killings I’ve heard of. The video would not load for me, probably because of my ad blocker, but the description was enough.
That moron cop does not even know basic gun rules like, “Know your target AND WHAT’S BEHIND IT.” And to murder someone’s beloved pet for no reason at all should be punishable by being cashiered and barred for life from ever working in law enforcement or even as a security guard.
These thugs should be stopped from doing these heinous killings, if not by their thug bosses, then by the dogs’ owners, friends and neighbors. SSS, FGS.
Brutishness, limited life experience, and limited IQ seems to be a prerequisite for becoming a police officer these days. I’ve known some great people who were/are cops, in college, from work and church. I wonder what they think about all this brutishness. A sheriff friend made a point of rescuing stray dogs and finding homes for them. Two of the dogs I’ve been blessed with came from him. He is gone now, and I’m glad he doesn’t have to read about this crap.
And these Neanderthals don’t want us to have guns. # ‘em
I can only imagine the outrage that would be generated if our soldiers in Afganistan were recorded treating a domestic animal in the same way....
I sleep with a pit bull every night. Best dog in the world.
You've got issues that should be professionally addressed.
Muslims, dhimmis and faggots hate dogs, especially pit bulls.
Which combination are you?
Or any animal. Animal cruelty is a crime, and cops should not be above that law.
I’m truly too disgusted for words about these thug-cop, animal-abuser horror stories.
Our troops love their animals, and they mutually depend upon each other for the protection of their lives.
