My wife and I were at my parents for Thanksgiving, along with my sister.
During dinner conversation, we discovered my sister was an enthusiastic Obama supporter. Unfortunately, the conversation ended up in a long political argument. My parents refused to say how they voted, but it was pretty obvious they're drinking the Koolaide too, along with my brother, who wasn't there.
As you can imagine, I've been thinking a lot about this since. There's more than a little bit of regret I have from the conversation, but beyond that, I think it was the first time I've actually come face to face with the mindset of the other side.
Most of you have probably been there and seen the unbelievable lack of information, complete ignorance of history, acceptance of propaganda as fact, and just the stupidity and immorality that otherwise good people can accept.
I'm saddened by the whole episode, but more than that, I'm more than a little afraid. I can't help but think about the history of Nazi and pre-Nazi Germany, of the Russian and Chinese "revolutions", and the other repeated examples of the horrors of socialism and the relative ease with which their countries' populations accepted them, even with enthusiasm.
Again, this is probably old hat to a lot of us here.
But, as I was out in the garage, patching up one of our old cars for the 3rd or 4th time, trying to keep it driveable so we don't have to spend money on a new one (even though we must be "the rich", since our taxes are going to go up even more), I had a lot of time to think, and I'm faced with the reality that, someday in the future, I am likely to be an enemy of the state.
I know I'm not going to be a member of the ruling elite in the coming new order. Nor will I be one of their supporters. That means I'll either be a member of the vocal dissent that gets killed off early on, the resistance that gets hunted down later (I suspect this is where I'll end up), or I can chose to be a slave to the state - and I refuse to be the latter.
It's a sobering thought. I love my country. I never thought I would ever take action against her. But I can't help feeling that, at some point, if I value freedom and my rights as an individual, then I will end up her enemy.
Anyone thought along similar lines? If so, how do you deal with it, 'cause I'm pretty darned depressed about the idea.
Good people. And a squad of Mexican soldiers sure did right by me one time. Thats all im gonna say.
What makes you think the UN won’t send millions of people from China, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, India, Africa, Saudi Arabia, and wherever else over here to “keep the elections safe” in 2016? Do you really think the Senate would stop a treaty like that? We have the worst president in US history in office, just got reelected on top of that. Why are you so sure of our future? The times to fight back have long passed. All that’s left is to wait for the knock at the door.
What times am I talking about?
Shay’s Rebellion was lost. The Civil War was lost. Nobody did anything during Prohibition. Nobody did anything in 1984 after Miller was decided. Nobody did anything in 1964 when the Gun Control Act was passed. Nobody did anything in 1994 when the Assault Weapons Ban was passed.
It really is simple. The people as a whole will accept anything and everything that comes their way without so much as a profane word. We were doomed a long, long time ago.
“What makes you think the UN wont send millions of people from China, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, India, Africa, Saudi Arabia, and wherever else over here to keep the elections safe in 2016?”
Thats a great way to show the American people that the insurgents are mere outlaws. Turn it into a foreign invasion and gavanize EVERYONE (except you?) into shooting at occupation troops. The ones who felt too guilty to resist the US military would NEVER shoot at Saudi, Russian, and African troops in our streets, would they? LOL
Everything in a commercial kitchen is hot, sharp, slippery, or has an STD. Do not mess with the cooks. ;)

Against 90 million with over 200 million firearms?
Yamamoto said it best. He was a military man with a clue.
The countries you name can barely field their military in their own countries.
We'd have Norks surrendering to get away from the zampolits and work in the garden.

I said Charlie didn't you vote for Obama?
He asked what did that have to do with anything?
I told him to call the WH and have Obama fix his shitt@r for him. And hung up.

I recall sitting in the school yard as a child back in the early 70’s and for some odd reason I started thinking about my future and my nation. I always felt a kinship with our political forefathers though I don’t know why just that is how I always felt. I was thinking sitting on a monkey bar would I ever see this nation collapse. Now that fear I had when I was child is coming to pass now but I have no doubt which side I belong, and that is Freedom. I pray that our Military will side with the American people. As all of us are aware that these liberals have infiltrated school with their indoctrination and these young will one day enter the military (I hope not) and come against us. However I do not fear for I know God will be us when that time comes and we shall prevail or should I say Freedom will prevail.
P.S. I don’t know but has anyone seen Sons of Anarchy will the episode last week I maybe wrong but I saw the American Flag in the background when the boys were having a meeting. The flag was hanging top to bottom and the stars on the left upper corner. Is that a distress signal?
The distress signal would be flying the flag upside down
And that’s called going Bowman.
“be a supporter, a dummy, someone that prefers ignorance over trouble...
and when they arent looking, work sabotage and other nefarious deeds to help the resistance.”
Be wiser than the serpent...good!
Watched the movie, The Pianist last night. I noticed that as each horror escalated, the Jews in Warsaw had the attitude, and said to one another, “this won’t last, people will not put up with this kind of thing.” It occurred to me that what causes really bad things to happen is that people fall into the error of thinking that “others” will not let unspeakably evil acts go on. They believe this, even as they, themselves are allowing the atrocities to go on. For some reason they reason that “others” will stand up, that “others” will be brave, that “others” will do things they are not doing. All horrible things seem to happen precisely because we tell ourselves that they CAN’T happen, or can’t happen, here, to me, in my town, in this modern era, etc.
I still think troops would be gathered from as many countries as possible to take over our lands.
Yeah, Red Dawn was a movie, but it sure as hell worked. Now, how well would it work with a president supporting that invasion?
Sic semper tyrannis
If you love something, let it go. If it stabs you in the groin by voting Obama multiple times, it is too far gone to save.
Ah, yes, the “good Germans” theory. Sorry, that doesnt work. Individually, they may be fine people, but as participants in the government’s program, they are also culpable.
The Soviet Union was also founded on a few top government officials living high in the hog....while government employees under them enforced the will of the state and in exchange at least got a living ration. People will settle for very little to consider themselves wealthy and privileged in a dictatorship, and they will gladly turn in or destroy anyone who threatens that tiny privilege.
Yes, indeed, the “good German” argument can be found throughout our own nation. I can think of three:
1) The day after Elian Gonzolas was kidnapped, the INS workers who did the dirty work threw a picnic to celebrate. What did we hear from the “good” INS workers? Nothing.
2) TSA workers who willingly seek work feeling the “junk” of 3 year old preschoolers. What do we hear from the “good” TSA workers? Silence.
3) We see this reasoning all the time on the threads about government schooling.
School Variation:
Not **all** of our godless, socialist-funded, single-payer, and compulsory government K-12 schools are bad. My child's school is different.
Not **all** of the teachers in our godless, socialist-funded, single-payer, and compulsory schools are bad. Hey! My child's Sunday School teacher teaches in the (godless) “public” schools.
“There are an estimated 90,000,000 gun owners in the US, who possess an estimated 270,000,000 firearms”
And not a shot fired. Yet.
The loss of liberty/freedoms has been in the making even during republican control. NDAA, Patriot act, TSA, DHS, IRS, EPA.
Not sure what to think, but I know what I can see. Dept of Homeland Security has been providing grants to local law enforcement all over the country. Even noticed a new police force driving around in their white SUV’s marked with big blue reflective letters...”POLICE”. When you get alongside them, you see that is is Federal Protective Services. Nice!
We now have Aeriel drones here in Montgomery co., Texas. Tomball, Conroe, Montgomery co. sheriffs office all sporting military grade weapons and surveillance capabilities. Webs of surveillance cameras being installed...everywhere.
Conspiracy theory? One fella at work used to talk this stuff, we'd all just blow him off as kinda nutty.
I thought the rumor of bio-metric databases in Texas are in fact true. DOT and DPS are compiling digitized photos of drivers and fingerprints when renewing your DL.
The new lic plates are watermarked and have enhanced reflectivity, allowing law enforcement to simply scan plates. They now travel slowly through parking lots of retail stores scanning one after another for violations, wants/warrants and so forth.
Everything is tied to your auto license plate in Texas. Inspection, DL, registration, biometrics, CHL.
I dunno what's happening, but can't seem to get out of my mind when Obozo said, “We need a civilian force just as well equipped, funded...” Paraphrasing, but I am seeing local law enforcement looking kinda para-military.
