Vanity: Enemy of the State

Posted on 11/24/2012 4:33:34 PM PST by chrisser

My wife and I were at my parents for Thanksgiving, along with my sister.

During dinner conversation, we discovered my sister was an enthusiastic Obama supporter. Unfortunately, the conversation ended up in a long political argument. My parents refused to say how they voted, but it was pretty obvious they're drinking the Koolaide too, along with my brother, who wasn't there.

As you can imagine, I've been thinking a lot about this since. There's more than a little bit of regret I have from the conversation, but beyond that, I think it was the first time I've actually come face to face with the mindset of the other side.

Most of you have probably been there and seen the unbelievable lack of information, complete ignorance of history, acceptance of propaganda as fact, and just the stupidity and immorality that otherwise good people can accept.

I'm saddened by the whole episode, but more than that, I'm more than a little afraid. I can't help but think about the history of Nazi and pre-Nazi Germany, of the Russian and Chinese "revolutions", and the other repeated examples of the horrors of socialism and the relative ease with which their countries' populations accepted them, even with enthusiasm.

Again, this is probably old hat to a lot of us here.

But, as I was out in the garage, patching up one of our old cars for the 3rd or 4th time, trying to keep it driveable so we don't have to spend money on a new one (even though we must be "the rich", since our taxes are going to go up even more), I had a lot of time to think, and I'm faced with the reality that, someday in the future, I am likely to be an enemy of the state.

I know I'm not going to be a member of the ruling elite in the coming new order. Nor will I be one of their supporters. That means I'll either be a member of the vocal dissent that gets killed off early on, the resistance that gets hunted down later (I suspect this is where I'll end up), or I can chose to be a slave to the state - and I refuse to be the latter.

It's a sobering thought. I love my country. I never thought I would ever take action against her. But I can't help feeling that, at some point, if I value freedom and my rights as an individual, then I will end up her enemy.

Anyone thought along similar lines? If so, how do you deal with it, 'cause I'm pretty darned depressed about the idea.

But not while most of us live.

The ruling class may be those at the top of the government employee heap, but it is unfair of you to castigate all of them that way.

Utter BullC*ap. There are likely millions of sadistic Federal parasites who daily get joy out of making the lives of normal Americans miserable.

The Federal parasite class, down to the lowest worker is knowingly and quite away of the misery they are causing.

The Federal parasite class is quite aware that they make 2X what the private sector makes and are now quite happy to view us as the enemy.

I have no doubt the Federal bureaucrat class will become much, much more sadistic towards regular Americans. All one has to do is read history to see the coming reality we will face.

Something just dawned on me. I think some folks are finally getting why men go off to die in war.

There are some things——that are worth dying for. This is a profound revelation to some. And it will shock and awe you for a while.

That is why many still go a place a flower on our honored dead’s graves.

They know that some died to protect them. I think we have lost that feeling for the most part and getting it back will sting.

“then no quater will be given and the strategy of COIN would not be implemented by those who seek to destroy liberty minded individuals. It will be Waco every hour on the hour.”

No way, impossible for them to do.
A Waco every hour is “unsustainable” by any measure.
Texas has nearly the population of Iraq, and is 25% Larger. The population is smarter, better educated, and better armed by far. The US military was nearly bled white in Iraq. And they were not fighting on their own people, and on their own logistical tail. When they fought in Iraq, America was a place you could exhale and refit.

Also, the US military is 10% Texans.

And in your scenario where the military is blowing through the red states like the Nazis in Russia, in a war of total destruction, the world economy will be pushing for it to stop.
The economy of Texas is one of the largest and most rapidly growing economies in the United States. As of 2011, Texas is home to six of the top 50 companies on the Fortune 500 list and 51 overall, (third most after New York and California). As the largest exporter of goods in the United States, Texas currently grosses more than $100 billion a year in trade with other nations.

In 2011,Texas had a gross state product of $1.332 trillion, the second highest in the U.S.
The synergistic effect alone of a total war on JUST Texas would devastate the US economy. F-35 factory? American Airlines? BNSF? etc,, gone.

Yessiree, a war of total destruction sure would be interesting. And you didnt say anything about just Texas. Against all the red states, impossible and unwinnable. It would be COIN or nothing.

I feel the same way. The sins of my youth helped us to get here. We’re a nation that turned from God, now he’s turning from us.

Yes

Pray He forgives us and gives us the opportunity to at least go down fighting.

I would hate to see this country go with a whimper

Indeed, it will be very possible to put sand into the gears of tyranny, and if one is well versed in doing this with a face of innocence, even better.

All here should understand that the imposition of totalitarian power is in direct opposition to human nature. Socialism is theft, and carried to the furthest it is theft by a police state. Civil disobedience can be expressed by conservatives just as well as the left.

There is a great number of historical works to draw on to see where this is going. Especially Jefferson, and our Founders. We should WANT to be in their company, where the truth is an act of courage, and the truth will make them eat themselves alive with fear— the fear that is essential in a government that serves by the consent of the governed.

The jungle and the desert are harsh to mechanized equipment. Urban areas with plenty of garages will be far more friendly to the guys that have to work on vehicles.

Sorry to be a bit of a downer, but let me pose and answer an important question. What do the American Revolutionary War, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War and the Nothern Ireland uprisings have in common? Answer: the counter-insurgent troops landed in foreign lands of which they had little to no direct knowledge.

Unfortunately: if it comes down to an American dictatorship, its minions will be your fellow Americans. I.e., they will know the turf (except locally.)

Sad to say, but the only valid precedent you have for such a scenario is the U.S. Civil War. The Union didn't know the turf locally, but they did know the nation and the nationality. Those counter-insurgents didn't.

If it comes down to the scenario becoming reality, I'd run hard from any would-be general who assures everyone that the battle will go just like the Revolutionary War. The U.S. military's home base is not the U.K.

Current US military doctrine is to use local contractors in DFACs and 'Dining Halls'.

How friendly is that? (Don't eat the peach cobbler)

The federal government can't wage open warfare in CONUS with any expectation of doing much more than defending cities.

Sure, they could nuke fly-over country. Where the food grows and stuff gets done.

It's going to be expensive to try it. For everybody.

Useful reading; “The Garden of the Beasts” about pre-ww2 nazi germany. Many parts of this well written first person narrative will inform the current situation.

To always understand that socialism and communism/marxism are simply shades of the same totalitarian spectrum. These people want to control us. And our Founders knew all about the nation states of europe and their corruption.

The answer is to resist, always, fight always. And above all call these bastards out. Call them what they are and prove it with facts— without dispute, facts.

Example: Jon Corzine is a thief— he stole private investors money and he should be in federal prison. But he is not— and why is that? Because another felon, the atty general allows him to run around and bundle money for the manchurian presentdent. That is who these socialists are— rich, bigoted statists who feel they are above the law.

Use their own tactics— define the target, freeze it, and then bring it down— relentlessly.

In the First Civil War, the Union had the factories and means of production, and the people to run it.

Not much of a precedent, in my opinion.

The logistics have completely changed in the last 150 years.

The hated 'fly-over' country is who feeds America, and produces what goods we produce anymore. It's where stuff gets done. Talk about stepping on your crank, to attack your logistics tail.

Be best we never have to find out.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but...

Next time you talk to your Roe v Wade / Obama supporting Mother, thank her for not Aborting you.

Then tell her it’s too bad so many others can’t thank their Mothers for making the same decision that she did.

You may also want to mention Obama’s support for Post Birth Abortion when he was an Illinois State Senator.

If I offended you, which was not my intention, please ask the Mod to delete this Post.

“The U.S. military’s home base is not the U.K.”

No it isn’t, is it? And you think thats an advantage? You couldn’t be more wrong. Check out post #98.
Texas alone could easily swallow up our military. It is utterly not desinged, sized, or equipped to fight where it lives. At best it could hold cities.

And a fun factoid. The states most likely to be the targets of a Totalitarian socialist America, are the very states that provide the soldiers. Many of them will desert if asked to attack their hometowns. The military would have a huge problem of dissent, and trying to decide who was untrustworthy inside their own units.

On its Best day, the Armed IRA numbered a few hundred. They held on for decades.
And your examples were Vietnam, Iraq, and the IRA. Each lasted a decade or more. And the north didn’t win the civil war because they were locals, who knew the south better than the southerers. They won because of things like incredible production of food, weapons, manpower, ships, etc.
They were an industrial nation fighting an agrarian state.

Sure, it wouldnt be a foreign military. But that means they have to attack everything, hold everything, AND protect their own families and bases. All with a million and a half? And thats going to be interesting to see what happens when all the US military on earth leaves its far flung outposts to come home and fight. How you deal with everything that breaks out geo-politically?

No, even a COIN effort here would quickly turn into a nightmare. A full on fight would be impossible.

Yes, on the Wednesday after the election II was saddened about Romney's loss.

But....On Thursday, I cried. Why? Because on Thursday I read about the massive fraud.

There is plenty of historical precedence of what happens when the people can no longer trust elections. Argentina and Chile are but two of many examples. Our nation is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

“I’d run hard from any would-be general who assures everyone that the battle will go just like the Revolutionary War.”

I would too. Leaderless cells would certainly avoid any would-be general, or any effort to organize. I would hate to see here what we have seen in such wars around the world. But id hate my kids to live under a marxist totalitarian state too.

There would be an army, always showing up with nothing to fight. I know its a movie, but in the original Red Dawn, some nondescript person leaves a bomb in the corner drug store. It detonates a while after the resister walked away.
After the detonation, a tank rumbles to the intersection.
The turret swings around a few times. There was nothig to shoot at.

PS,, by the way. Ask a Mexican Marine about how cool it is to have this home turf advantage you imagine exists.

One of my former line cooks was a (legal) immigrant from Mexico City.

Turns out he was a police Sergeant there. Born there, grew up there. Left because it got too crazy. Cooking for gringos was safer and almost as lucrative.

“What do the American Revolutionary War, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War and the Nothern Ireland uprisings have in common? “

All lasted over a decade and ended in negotiated outcomes? All pitted invisible people with simple bombs and small arms against highly trained, well equipped and well fed enemies? And killed them in horrifying numbers?
All three movements had significant enemy COIN and intel formations from within the country who “knew the turf”?
