What are your three favorite action movies?
Damn, now I’m gonna have to to my old photo books and dig out some Hi-Rise work pix!! I took quite a few of ‘em on many different buildings back in the day, might be fun to look ‘em over again. It has been a years. IIRC I have around 150-200(?), Some in black and white but about 75% in color. (And maybe 50 or so of those that I must have been temp. insane to posistion myself to take). Crazy but fun times. There were very few days after coming down and heading out towards the parking areas/lots that a guy didn’t turn around and glance back up. A hell of a lot of pride a man felt in building, and especially completing, those suckers that’s for sure.
I like Duel, Runaway Train, Apocalypto, Mad Max series. I’m sure I’m leaving some out.
Thought of some more...don’t know if these are true action, but they have action in them:
Leon: The Professional, Jaws, Blade Runner, Alien, The Thing. That’s all.
You do know that movie is a huge anti-capitalism flick?
That poor little Plymouth. ;-)
I actually had a 1988 Plymouth Reliant that did that on a mountain pass near Moab, Utah. It kept losing power just like the one in the movie. I finally pulled over and found a huge crack in the radiator.
That is when I discovered the miracle of JB Weld and a coke can.
HAHAHA. I’m in a rock cover band. We’ve been having some “band drama” lately so for therapy I watched “The Kids are Alright” last night.
I’ll watch Pulse tomorrow.
I too am glad to see Ronin getting a lot of love on this thread, I only discovered it a few years ago, I dont even remember it when it came out in theaters, but it is one of best movies ever made.
Another one that didn’t get the respect it deserves and should be mentioned here is “Point Break”.
I think both movies suffer from bad titles.
Point break had what was, up until then, the best foot chase scene I ever saw. The movie is quite an adrenaline rush. There are some great one liners too.
I never saw Gangs, but I love The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Mohicans is my favorite movie with him in it.
I actually decided to give this way too much thought. My three favorite, and each for different reasons, are:
The original The Italian Job.
Point Break
Ronin
I absolutely love Jaws. Now, I know Spielberg just uses formulas to evoke responses from his viewers, but I like the formula!
Since the my opinion of the finest three action movies changes from day to day depending on my mood at the time, I think your list probably covers the three finest no matter what day it is.
Does your Randolph Scott blanket coverage include “Ride the High Country”? I liked that movie.
IMHO Replacement Killers outpaced Ronin for action.
We moved 9 hours from home a couple years ago. When we return, most cars we pass have cartoons playing on the screen. My sons use the trip to watch Band of Brothers.
IMHO Replacement Killers outpaced Ronin for action.
Then I need to see it. :-)
I confess that my choices are not because of the action alone. It is the context in which the action takes place that puts them on my list - and the action as well.
***Ride the High Country? I liked that movie.***
YES! Bad guy using early semi auto rifle!
***outpaced Ronin for action.****
I haven’t seen it yet, but I am under the impression it is NOT about the 47 Ronin of Japan.

But I got a shocker for ya. If memory serves, the theme was written by, and I kinda hate to be the one to tell you,.....are you sitting down?.........Sonny Bono.
