The center of the Corn Belt, now in Iowa, will move south to Kansas, says Archibald.
Using solar and surface data, David Archibald, polymath, makes a bold prediction that temperatures are about to dive sharply (in the decadal sense). He took the forgotten correlation that as solar cycles lengthen and weaken, the world gets cooler. He refined it into a predictive tool, tested it and published in 2007. His paper has been expanded on recently by Prof Solheim in Norway, who predicts a 1.5°C drop in Central Norway over the next ten years.

Back about 1977 PROGRESSIVE FARMER magazine said that crops grown in Illinois would now be grown in Alabama due to the coming ice age.
Then last year they began to beat the drum for GLOBAL WARMING! and crops would be moved farther north because of it.
Did they get an influx of grant money?
Good! Maybe we will start to get some decent snow in western Colorado during hunting season. That snow is needed to drive the elk down from the mountains.
Ernie, thank you for the post of another scientist who remembers that historical climate study is also a factor in modeling the ‘future climate’ possibilities.
The latest solar cycle max is passing. How inactive will the sun get?
Hot damn, more liberals fleeing south to leave me the hell alone.
People quickly forget that most of the United States is at the latitudes where most of the world's deserts are located.
But for hurricanes we'd be a quite arid and desolate wasteland!
At 1st in the early 70's it was Global Cooling. Then came the hole in ozone scam. Followed by Global Warming. Then changed to Climate Change (after it was determined that warming stopped about 10 years ago). Now it's going to have to be updated again to Global Cooling.
Yep, that is pretty much the 33 year cycle. So, winter here is about like it was in the late 70s, and we have a pretty cold streak between now and, say, 2025. Not a good time to shut off the lights and try to stop conventional energy production. Solar panels don’t work well under a bunch of snow, and windmills might not cut it when it hits 35 below.
I may be wrong here but I have yet to hear their explanation of the ice age, the melting of the ice age, the mini ice age there after, and it’s melting.....all before the evil SUV’s, coal and oil.
Good. We haven’t seen a decent snow at the farm since 1979. We had days of snow in the winter of ‘77 - ‘78. We went around for what seemed like weeks in the snow and ice.
Since then it has been just ice and wrecked the trees.
Before that the early 60’s were warm. We had roses up until Thanksgiving back then. The 90’s and ‘00s have been unremarkable save for the droughts.
It has happened before and it will happen again. The sun rules.
Or will the science (not) be twisted to make the cause of the cooling too much carbon?
Looks like time to buy some furry-wooly underwear, parkas and mukluks.
Yeah, rinse and repeat. If you live long enough, you should be able to remember these cycles. So, now it will be "global cooling" and remember ----- WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!
I suppose it is just too "nuanced" to get these people to realize that the "weather" has "cycles" and that sometimes its warm and sometimes it is cooler.
I am still waiting for someone to tell me what the "optimum" temperature of the Earth is supposed to be. If it is too warm, what is the baseline for that? How much warmer? Warmer than what?
Good! Then maybe my garden won’t be burned up every summer with 110 degree temps.
These guys are pretty smart. It is November in the northern hemisphere and it is fixing to snow.
Maybe sable fur coats will come back in style. :-)
