Buy American (simple vanity)
(vanity) | November 9th, 20122 | (self)

Posted on 11/09/2012 6:41:02 PM PST by Cringing Negativism Network

OK I'll go ahead and start this vanity, because I think it's a topic whose time has come:

We spent billions more last year than we took in.

Billions. On all sorts of junk.

Every country in the world is building factories, selling their stuff to us.

China in particular, is selling us all sorts of junk.

It is time for us to sell, not buy.

Just saying.

Sell stuff. Sell stuff made here.

Thanks for listening. :)

Stop buying. Full consumer boycott this Christmas

Excellent. Cut the stupid cable. Stop the newspaper. Starve them.

How about a car made in a right-to-work state? There are many of those (granted, such cars are usually Toyotas, BMWs, Hyundais, etc.).

American made products are automatically overpriced due the fact that the LABOR is overpriced and that is passed on to the consumers

Only partially correct. American products are overpriced for not one, but three reasons:

1. Labor (as you said), especially union labor.

2. Heavy taxes that drive up production cost.

3. Insane regulations that drive up production cost.

Today, less than 15% of private-sector workers are unionized. So if you blame solely the unions, you are missing something.

Quick story for you. I believe I read it in the Wall St. Journal. A couple of years ago a factory was built in the US. Just as it was starting production, OSHA came in and ordered everything closed down. Why? Because the handrails in the stairs and walkways were an inch too short!

Why would anyone even think about opening a factory in America?

CHEAP IS GOOD.

It is when American families are struggling to get by because half their paychecks are lost to some kind of tax or government fee.
There was a time when dad could bring home his pay check and comfortably support an entire family with 5 kids. That was before welfare.

Hmmmm?

Shall I enrich China or union dominated manufacturing in the USA? One is a Communist country, but moving slowly toward democracy & the rule of law, while the other is dominated by organized crime, about one step above the Bloods & Crips, & getting more blatant by the day.

If I enrich the Chinese, will they vote as a block to raise my taxes or take away my freedom & property? They can't do that, can they? When I pay so much more for a US made shirt or underwear, where does all that extra money go - to the worker or the union?

Lately, buy American means buy reparations & redistribution.

I think if I wanted to avoid enriching my enemies I'd have to pick my purchases far more carefully that just by where they are made.

I will be seriously looking at non UAW cars next time I need one. Almost all the libs I know drive Toyota, Honda, etc. Seems to me like Chevy & Dodge sell more cars in Red America. Then the UAW goes out and endorses socialist candidates. Something is wrong with that.

I’m buying nothing but arms, ammo, and things I absolutely cannot get by without. Everything else is off the table.

Yes, sorry, carriage_hill commented in #7 above: Is there anything remaining that’s Made In USA? and I answered Yes, actually ;-)

Thank you, "I did build that", contrary to what that maggøt in the WhiteHut tries to tell us.

Nightstands/end tables are a subdued tiger maple made for a client a year or so ago, and the handmirrors are of varying species, usually available on a couple weeks notice.

Wow.

I’m really sorry.

We’ve been going for about 17 years and I’m not sure we’ll make it to 21 years, now.

[or even 18]

There should be limits.

America is by far, the most open market in the world.

Bar none.

That will not matter, if America eventually goes broke, because we gave it all away.

The world used to be all cheaper than America.

Now about half the world is cheaper. Yet we remain excluded as a country from countries cleaning our clock, so to speak.

I say it is time to change. It is time to enact protection on our remaining markets.

Slight at first, but it is time.

Instead of going skiing in Colorado or California go to Utah, Wyoming or Idaho.

I know what you mean about the appliances. My toaster gave up the ghost and I was so angry by the time I looked for a new one made in the U.S. at stores and on the internet that I just said screw it. I had an old portable toaster oven I kept in the garage in case one of the grandkids needed it for college or their first apartment but now it sits in my kitchen. Want something toasted at my house and you can use that. When it wears out, we’ll use the regular oven.

I had a coffee pot made by Mr. Coffee that was at least 15 years old. It died. I’ve been through 4 so far this year, all different brands-none last long.

I live in deep blue California and have a getaway place in Arizona. Everything’s cheaper in Arizona and they’re a red state. If I can avoid buying something until I make a run to the river pad, that’s what I’ll do. Support the red state and starve the blue as much as feasible.

And a FReeper mentioned on another thread recently about compiling a list of businesses that are pro-conservative. Whether they sell the info or share it for free, we should all support the effort by providing info on businesses that we feel are worth supporting. If conservative businesses outpace the general market it’ll be a real good thing.

Thank you very much CH, and I'm very sorry to hear about your farm  :-(

I'm probably not too far from hanging it up myself .. will never quit completely cuz boredom would kill me, but this Øconomy is keeping people away in droves.

You're ever planning to be in central PA, get in touch.

“Nothing like cutting your own throat, and that of other Americans.
You and a bunch of other ‘go galt’ nuts need to grow up.”

Personally, I thinking it is living up to what once was most identified as being American — rugged self-reliance.
