Full Title: SHOCK: 72 Hours After Grid-Down: Starvation, Supply Shortages, Food Lines, No Clean Water, No Gas, Transportation Standstill *Independent Reports, Pics, Video*
A recent study noted that the majority of people have enough food in their pantries to feed their household for about three days and that seemingly stable societies are really just nine meals from anarchy. With most of us dependent on just-in-time transportation systems to always be available, few ever consider the worst case scenario.
For tens of thousands of east coast residents that worst case scenario is now playing out in real-time. No longer are images of starving people waiting for government handouts restricted to just the third-world.
In the midst of crisis, once civilized societies will very rapidly descend into chaos when essential infrastructure systems collapse.
Though the National Guard was deployed before the storm even hit, there is simply no way for the government to coordinate a response requiring millions of servings of food, water and medical supplies
Many east coast residents who failed to evacuate or prepare reserve supplies ahead of the storm are being forced to fend for themselves.
Frustration and anger have taken hold, as residents have no means of acquiring food or gas and thousands of trucks across the region remain stuck in limbo.

That depends. How many are blaming Republican Chris Christie and RINO Bloomberg, and how many are blaming Democrat Obama?
I always keep a stash of a few thou just in case.
I have silver maples, eagles, pandas, phils, as wel.
Have plenty of G & A as well.
And after that ridiculous Wednesday photo-up, Obama tied himself to Christie. They're going down together.
Kanye West: “Obama hates white people”.
There are many great truths spoken through characters in novels and on screen. Why denigrate the truth because of that? I used to routinely quote from Lord of the Rings because what Tolkien says through his characters applies. (Sometimes Narnia as well, though as they were written for younger audiences, they tend to be less complex.)
I don’t understand why the National Guards from all of the northeast states are not converging on NJ with potable water, MREs, and emergency shelters.
Nationalize them, and get them moving.
What am I missing?
They are non-union, silly!
Inspiring, let’s pray others were as smart as you were to prepare!
That line from Quark rings so true!
I think I have finally convinced my Wife about the value or Prepping. She though I was a little nuts, but everything I told her about what is going to happen is not happening on the coast.
I’ve seen quite a few people on this site feel no sympathy for the people in NY because they didn’t “prep” for the storm. In some instances you may be right but if you watch the NBC clip there were people whose houses were totally destroyed. One woman’s home looked like it had been hit by a tornado. She survived because they were wise enough to evacuate before the storm but now she has NOTHING. I am sure there are many more in the same situation.
top it off - bloomberg has diverted generators and personnel to support the NY marathon - instead of getting the necessary support to the people of NY. Priorities
There are some real differences between a “cane hitting a relatively lightly populated suburban area, & a densely populated, high-rise area like Manhattan.
You can't use a generator or grill in an apartment. No elevator means every trip outside is a major exertion & impossible for many old & disabled people. I'll bet the windows do not open in many apartments in NYC. Water service wont last long w/o pumps running to replenish rooftop reservoirs. No water, no toilet.
If you have a car - many don't, it may be in a flooded underground garage or floating in the street. Too, it is hard to evacuate the family, pets, & possessions with no car. With public transportation limited & crowded, going anywhere & getting back is iffy. Plus, most of the public transportation could not take you the 100+ miles inland necessary to be safe & relatively comfortable. A subway to Jersey is no proper evacuation.
These high-rise folks have some unique survival problems that those of us with trucks & single family homes do not have. As for the whiners on Long Island, they didn't evacuate & they didn't prepare, creating their own crisis. Good luck with that!
In Metairie, outside NOLA where I live the water went down in a couple of days. As soon as that happened, the National Guard was stationed and awaiting the subsiding waters in NOLA to bring in provisions. We had MREs in my area on day 3. Gas was a problem but not many were here so my son would go out of town in his truck to get replacements for us and our neighbor. Bush did everything he was supposed to do, our dem governor, Blanco went Blank but managed to blame president Bush. WE knew better and always will! She was voted out and her partner in crime Mary Landrieu will soon be gone.
“friendly, intelligent, wonderful people” New Yorkers?!
Needs more work.
Everyone’s a critic!
I know legally Obama can’t do it, bug when has he ever followed the rule of law? Watch for the MSM to start beating the ‘postpone’ drums this weekend. And when Obama loses, the dems will blame the hurricane, etc. and likely incite more violence in the hardest hit areas. Watch for the usual race baiters to pop up on TV too...
Generators are privately owned. Still the marathon is stupid.
I have sympathy for those that lost their homes and their livlihoods. I have much less sympathy for those fighting and the inevitable rioters because they have to go without power for a period of time. The people that lost their homes should be a priority, not the guy who has no means to charge his cell phone.
This time around though, those who want Obama OUT are just going to ignore the nonsense and get out there and vote.
Imagine how many cans of food all those Twitterers could have prepped instead of spending so much money on their cell phone service and time wasted with their fingers tweeting. No sympathy for anyone without food or water just hours after the storm.
You have to actually work NOT to have any food in your house. It’s almost impossible not to have a couple boxes of cereal, a few cans of chicken noodle soup, or even Halloween candy sitting on the kitchen counter. When they had a week’s notice and still didn’t get off the couch to prep for their children, well, that’s simply disgusting.
I’m marking invasions of zombies off my list. They’re simply not smart enough.
