Donna called in to a North Dakota radio show saying it's irresponsible to have the signs in areas of such high traffic.
We've written many stories about smart and compassionate animals, but A woman who called into a North Dakota radio show is giving far too much credit to deer.
She called in to Fargo-area station Y94 Playhouse to complain about the "deer crossing" signs being in high-traffic areas and highways after she had been in three car accidents involving deer. She said all of the accidents happened shortly after she saw a "deer crossing" sign.
"Why are we encouraging deer to cross at the interstate?" said the woman who was only identified as Donna. She understands animals need to cross roads to find food, but said, "It's so irresponsible of us to allow these deer crossings to be in areas where deer are so likely to be struck by oncoming traffic, wouldn't you agree?"
Most of us seem to know that the signs are made for drivers so they know to be extra mindful of the animals in certain areas. This is a fact the radio show host told her after asking if she was kidding. Donna said she has written letters to local TV stations and newspapers in the past, but her complaint has fallen on deaf ears.
"The government put the deer crossings there, they can direct the deer populations anywhere they want to by moving that deer crossing sign," Donna said. Her request and solution is simple - move the signs to lower traffic areas.
The hosts found it difficult to explain to the woman the purpose of the signs and just quietly laughed at her. They eventually gave up trying to explain things to Donna and told her they would help spread the message.

>> “I thought it was a spoof as well. I think the caller was just having fun.” <<
When its liberals, you never know.
The county was talked into putting up “newt crossing” signs on a road near a reservoir in Orinda, Ca. The signs didn’t have the desired effect, of course, so the nuts lobbied to have the signs placed farther apart.
And they should pay deerly for it these people need to be reined in and taught a lesson.
I am willing to donate a few bucks to see this happen.
“DOH!”
Years ago while on a tour I heard someone ask the park ranger what time they turned off old faithful at night. He, the ranger, was extremely diplomatic in his answer...
Why don’t we just put the deer on food stamps so that they will have no need to cross the road in order to find food on the other side. Jeesh.
Doh a deer a female deer ray a golden drop of sun, i am now stuck in a rut..
It’s a hack radio bit - not a real caller, complete set up and fake.
I think her name is Lawrencia “Bambi” Bembenek .
Well, where do YOU think the deer should cross?
Give the deer Chevy Volts to drive. This would even the playing field some, and roast venison is quite tasty.
Oh yeah! My favorite and best was years ago traveling by plane.
I was sitting next to the window and the pilot had announced we were going over some state (forget which now)...
Anyhow, I looked to the guy sitting next to me and said my goodness! it looks nothing like the shape on the map!
That poor guy lost his face and I think he went pale thinking somebody could be that stupid.
Poor fella but it sure was fun! :)
The ACLU is getting papers ready to file. They don’t like the notion of the State giving deer crosses.
Deer crossing letter read 'round the world
Nearly a year after Tim wrote his letter, his 2012 Tacoma collided with a deer in the very spot marked by the deer crossing sign.
Don't be that sure. I tried to talk to a liberal about having a rechargeable car and she insisted that the electricity came out of the electrical outlet on the side of her house. No matter what I said, she had NO clue there was a power plant on the other end supplying the power.
ohh, i love this story.
My husband and I were in our early 20s on a skiing trip. Deer signs were everywhere, suddenly a deer was crossing right by a sign. I was amazed and asked my husband how it knew to cross by a sign...........I have never lived it down, just read this article to him and we are still laughing.
Conversation I had just this morning with 12 year old Nick:
Nick - "Holly, is today Tuesday."
Holly - "Yes, if it doesn't rain".
Nick - "Isn't it still Tuesday, even if it does rain"?
Holly - "I never said it wasn't"
He walked away.......thinking.
