The story of a Yorkshire housewife who spent five years in her childhood living with a colony of capuchin monkeys in Colombia is to be told for the first time in a book and planned television documentary.
Marina Chapman learnt to catch birds and rabbits with her bare hands after being abandoned in the jungle by kidnappers, it was reported.
The Tarzan-like episode was brought to an end when she was discovered by hunters but by her ordeal continued when she was sold to a brothel in the city of Cucuta, and groomed for prostitution.
She escaped and spent years on the streets, sometimes being arrested and kept in a cell, but was eventually taken in by a Colombian family to work as a maid in her mid-teens, and took the name of Marina Luz, according to the account given to a newspaper.
Later during her mid-twenties she travelled with a neighbouring family who went to stay in Bradford on business for six months - and stayed after she met John Chapman, then a 29-year-old bacteriologist, at a church meeting. They married in 1977.
She and her family have now decided to tell her story to help highlight the horrors of human trafficking in South America.

That’s quite a story
Well, I’ll be a monkeys Uncle...
Gona call bs
I bet her grand kids call her Nana.
BS....She says (age 5)....all she remembers is a hand over her mouth and being chloroformed....yeh....every 5 year old knows how that works...
Questionable - I don’t see how she could not know some things.
1. at 5 years old (in the mid 60’s) I knew my name and birthdate.
2. I was taught as a very small child to go to authorities if I need help, so when she escaped or any time after why did she not reach out to some sort of police or help service.
3. I’d been hugely traumatized as she likely was. How is it she’s just the average mom now telling bedtime stories - I would need a a lot of mental gymnasitcis to get from kidnapped to jungle to almost prostitute to house maid etc to well adjusted mom......
just a few of my thoughts on why this is questionable story.
Well, maybe Auntie
I agree about it being BS. I’m sure the media will dig in to find out if it’s BS or not.
You just had to slip that one in. lol
Hard to swallow.
If you ever study child development (like in a University) you soon learn that there are specific times and sequences that have to happen well, basically in the correct order and at the proper time.
Language development is one of them. Google Piaget.
AFAIK, all the other verified examples of feral children, none of them ever attained anything approaching even average language skills.
she was kidnapped when she was five
before being abandoned in the jungle.
The typical 4-year-old child will have about a
1,5001,600-word vocabulary.
It is likely she had a fully functional language capability
at the time she was abducted
If, at age 5, you had been wrested from your usual environment and subjected to an ordeal comparable to hers, I'm sure that, after only a few months, you would have forgotten most of those "factual memories." At that age, the brain is still very plastic. Without occasionally "refreshing," such dry factual information will be quickly sublimated and, eventually, deleted.
Not saying that I believe her story - on the contrary: She ought to have absolutely no memory of the circumstances of her initial abduction.
Regards,
Oh, OK, I guess I misread the timeline, I thought she was raised from near birth until she was 5 in the wild. then she was discovered.
In that case, I suppose it’s possible.
I wonder if you had to pay extra for time with the monkey girl? Yes, not a politically correct question—but one many want ask. I am their Lorax.
Sometimes I cant help myself.
Someone could probably blow this wide open if it gets advertised enough.
Many years ago, there was a Vincent Price movie...The Baron of Arizona...Price groomed a little girl to be Spanish Royalty who claimed the State. He even went so far as to join the monkhood to alter some documents.
Then the sh** hit the fan...someone called it a forgery but couldn't prove it...but that wasn't all....
there was a man who knew the girl when she was little and he knew her father was not Spanish...but black....
A great old movie...Price at his best!!
I’d like to see her ‘groom’ the kids! heheheh...
They later remade that story as the life of Barack Obama...
