I’m thinking 1 in 8 or 1 in 10 would be the proper twist rate fot the heavier longer rounds.
I’ve never reloaded the .30 carbine, so the ballistics are a mystery to me. It’s a pistol bullet, so twists are fairly low for such short bullets.
What are you going to shoot with it? It’s a pitiful excuse of a round.
A 30 Carbine typically shoots a 110gr bullet. That’s good enough at 900fps to do damage, however, fitting a silencer to a carbine like that might require machine work.
Oh, come on.
Be nice.
If you want to drop a doe or a buck from 25 yards, it’s more than enough.
If you are shooting farther, you use something bigger!
Plus, they are super-reliable. I have two, one is a Saginaw mil-supp from WWII.
Ammo USED to be dirt cheap...
Get a legal can for a .308, put it on the end of a .308 bolt gun, and don’t even give a thought to sonic crack.
I agree as rifle round but I sure do like it in a pistol. Hog are a serious problem here hunting them close range at night when their moving the most is the most effective. We’re talking very short range.
The beauty of a sonic crack is that it travels perpendicular to the bullet flight path. It is really confusing to listeners downrange. Those perpendicular to the flight path also hear the sound come from the direction of the flight path and it seems like someone is shooting at them.
I’ve heard rumors that the ATF may drop that requirement for suppressors.
It does. Mine was based on the Dutch blank adapter for the carbine, which positively locks around the front sight far more securely than the old wingnut-secured GI issue carbine flash suppressor or muzzle breaks. Simply turn off everything forward of the knurled portion [the *funnel* and restrictor for the old .30 carbine paper-wad blanks] and insert a threaded sleeve threaded for your suppressor threads.
BTW: the 7,62x25 Tokarev or 7,63 Mauser Broomhandle handgun cartridge is also very adaptable to 100-125-grain bullets with a .30 caliber can, too.
