A local couple says a San Antonio police officer who shot their dog in the jaw early Sunday morning was at the wrong house.
Albert Morales said his brother, Hector Serna, woke him up before dawn after hearing the gunshot and then pounding on his window.
I thought someone was trying to break in, Serna said, since the officer never identified himself.
Serna and Morales said they went outside and the officer approached them saying there had been a 911 call about a deceased woman.
Morales then said the officer told him he was responding to the call from another family blocks away on another street, who had once lived in their house.
Morales said the officer then told him 20 minutes later to check on his dog.
According to Morales, the officer said, He trotted up to me after I turned the corner, came to my feet and I shot him.
Morales said the officer described how he told the pit bull to get back, and when he didnt, he stepped back and fired his service revolver. However, the officer admitted to Morales the pit bull never growled at him.
I dont know if he meant to go straight down between the eyes or the top of the head, but it went from the mouth down, Morales said. Its heartbreaking. Its an innocent dog. Hes suffering.
Morales said his dog must be kept caged for six weeks, wear a cone around his neck, a muzzle over his mouth, and must be fed liquid nourishment through a straw.
Morales' girlfriend, Sarah Bueno, said theyve already accumulated nearly $600 in veterinary bills, not including medications, follow-up visits, and possible complications.
Wed like SAPD to pay for all that costs that have occurred, Bueno said. Just take care of their mistake.
A San Antonio police spokesman said the couple will be provided information on how to file a complaint and submit a financial claim.
The spokesman said it was too early to say whether there was a 911 mix-up, but the shift commander will look into the matter.
Reading crap like this makes me realize that I really, REALLY need to get a solid fence. Can’t trust the cops with a squirt gun, apparently.
oh jeez...
Heh. THAT showed him. I bet the next time an officer tells that pit bull to get back - HE DOES IT.

Noticing the pit bill survived. Goes to show how more range time is needed by the cop.

Is that you Chett99?
“The pit bull described how he clearly informed the Officer that he was trespassing on his Master’s property and advised him to leave and return in a lawful manner. ‘And then he had the gall to shoot me! Me, for doing my job!’ “
****
What the article would have added, if the dog could give his side of the story.
“Albert Morales said his brother, Hector Serna...”
Naaah.
Chet99 was rabidly anti-dog and frothed at the mouth about how evil dog owners are.
Altariel gets flak over posting stuff that makes cops look bad for acting like sturmtruppen.
The canine “no hable anglais”? Shoot him to teach him lesson!
LEo nneds to be disciplined (preferable by the owner and his family with PTFE rods.)
And some people wonder why I have absolutely no respect for cops: Cowards that like to kill animals; trigger happy psychopaths.
A wee bit broad?
Not broad enough: They also like killing unarmed innocents, children, old men, blind men, retarded children, and then blaming the victims.
I’ve got more if you need them.
What I meant was, isn’t it a little broad to say all of the above is true about ALL cops?
Happens way too often.
But considering it was San Antone, Mex. neighborhood and a loose puppy-mill Pit, I’ll give this one cop a break. He was just stupid.
When I see the other cops that claim they are not like that come forward and denounce such behaviors maybe then I can narrow the descriptions. Until then, yes, ALL cops. Since they all want to hide behind “the blue line”, they all can take responsibility for it, too.
great post
This happens so frequently that you would think they’d invest in a GPS system or something similar to locate the proper address.
