I also keep a spare set of full oxygen and acetylene tanks.

I am sure this gets mentioned a lot but that doesn’t change the fact that it is true.

.22LR ammo would be extremely valuable for trading material as well as to shoot in your own rifles and pistols.

A few threads back, someone recommended a ceramic filter for the two-bucket system. I can’t seem to find it. Can someone refresh my memory & recommend a good product?

You can find the sipgot on EBay as well:

Or you might just buy a sun tea jar on sale now and take the spigot out of it as cheap

I asked friends in Conroe what they thought about the drone and they were totally clueless. Told them they’ve had one for a year to which they gave me the bug eye and immediately changed the subject. Don’t know what to make of their response but there it is.

Perhaps the idea of one scared them. You know them - are they the types who would freeze if there is a problem? It's my opinion, based on their actions in certain cases, the sheriff and DA are power hungry and do whatever they want and no one better cross them.

No. She's the one who takes control of everything and issues the orders. He, and everyone else, follows them so I'm selective of which events I attend. They're voting Romney.

I wonder if anyone could elaborate on “4. Buckets.”

Specifically, how would you clear nuclear contaminated water?

I’ve heard that too. But I’ve also heard that it is very risky to use bullets to trade with because they so easily could be turned against you. I’d guess that if a person decided to trade with bullets, then you should really trust to whom you are trading them.

In such an economic situation I would not trade anything to anyone I didn’t trust.

One practical note on alternative transportation... Practice.

I recently purchased a rather robust bicycle with folding baskets, etc. because I generally make short trips.

I used to race bikes when I was a teen, spent my military years running and doing PT, and I still walk 1 to 3 miles a day.

That freaking mechanical torture device kicked my butt on a longish trip today. It has been over 35 years since I've been on a bike, and my thighs, glutes, and calves are still burning from today's ride.

I know it will get better with time, but it's good to use stuff BEFORE you need it, just so you know.

I've got that. It just isn't in the metals bins......

You sound like one of them fellers that are prepared to restore civilization and mitigate disorder after a disaster.

The MadMax wannabes aren't going to like you. ;)

Thanks for the link, Kart!

Here’s a gee whiz thing I just ran across as I was surfing the net this morning:

http://wildwoodsurvival.com/survival/fire/cokeandchocolatebar/index.html

You can use a coke can and a chocolate bar to make fire!

I have rechargeable batteries from the year 1999. I think I need to replace them with new ones. With all your experience, do you think I need to dump them? Don't ask me to dig them out of the box. It's on the bottom of other boxes and right now my left rotator cuff is seriously bad - so bad I put the arm in a sling so I wouldn't use it - can't lift right now.

Based on the fact they are about 13 years old, should I dump them? There are “eneloop” rechargeable batteries now and they are much better than older ones. I'll go to those if I need to dump the others.
