So, you are at a meeting at work, or say at a Church meeting. You are talking, and some guy is constantly mugging, laughing smirking. You are distracted by it, as is everyone else. But if you stop and call him on it, engage, he just turns up the juice, becomes totally disruptive, and wins. so what do you do?
Ignore it and hope everyone else sees him for the fool he is? Or come out with some clever one liner, if you can think of one: "didnt your parents teach you any manners?" Or reach over and slap the guy as you really want to?
What would you do?
Someone laughed and smirked at ME, once, at a board meeting. I stopped the meeting, confronted him directly but calmly, and asked him to apologize, which he did - in a squirmy, worm-ish sort of way. He resigned several months later. People are thrilled, and I am still Prez. (He was lucky I did not push his teeth down his throat.)
Biden is a bully. You have to stand up to a bully.Raise your voice level a little above theirs, tell them they are insulting and keep repeating it until they stop. Most bullies back away.
SOmetimes you just need to wait for the perfect moment in their routine and say “Yeah, I remember my first beer too Joe.”
That was the most frustrating debate evah. I got up halfway and went for a run. My blood pressure was sky high. Biden/Raddatz are obviously both idiots and I wish Ryan would have punched back harder but he was more of a gentleman than I would have been.
I think early on during the debate, I would have turned to Joe after the early interruptions and said look Joe, if you want to turn this into a WWE cage match, I’d be happy to oblige you but it would be a disservice to the american people out there who are deciding who to vote for. This is not an msnbc cable show - this is a serious debate and we need to have a serious discussion with the american people, comprende?
Anyway I think that’s what I would have done.
Tell them that I’ve decided to buy a used car elsewhere.
You ask “how long have you had Tourette’s syndrome? Is there medication for that?”
I outrank every civilian in my organization.
If I held a position that had civilians that outrank me, I would pull a Ryan. Mantain control and stay on message.
ding we have a winner! what is so funny Biden with millions of Americans not working and on food stamps?
My wife looked at me and asked if I was alright because I was beet red with anger.
Someone mentioned a board meeting treatment of a laughing fool. I’d have done and have done a similar thing. First. I would have never called him Joe but only Mr. Biden. He might not have recognized it but some would recognize it as an insult to his age and the fact that I did not like him at all.
Second, I would have simply stopped, given him my best go to hell grave look and said. Mr. Biden have I interrupted you or made a spectacle while you have been speaking? Have I been rude to you and the audience here by interrupting what is supposed to be a serious discussion of serious issues facing the nation? No, I have not. Is it possible sir for you to be polite and civil? You have that opportunity sir.
The other tack is to stop and ask, “Mr. Biden, do you need some time? Are you OK? I’m concerned about you.”
That is insulting to those that have Tourette’s syndrome. I mean that sincerely since they cannot help it and Biden could.
A better comment would be to ask Biden if this is how he runs the Senate.
Ding ding we have a winner.
You treat the person with sufficient respect that makes them look like the fool they are while putting them in their place. It furthers the point that you are the adult in the room and the one that should be put in charge.
I want to apologize to everyone for making this stupid
comment. No excuse except having a very bad morning and
not thinking. I am ashamed to read it now and have asked
that it be removed.
I was hoping that when Ryan spoke about Romney reaching across the aisle to work with democrats, and listing several ways he did that, that he would have thrown in something about Romney NOT doing it by laughing or smirking at them, treating the other side with disdain...that’s not the way to get things done, yet that is the approach that this administration has taken over the last 4 years: we’re not going to do that.
“Is that liquor I smell?”
I think that would have worked for Ryan, and been a “You’re no Jack Kennedy” moment people would remember forever. Still, he succeeded in showing he’s unflappable, which can’t be bad.
Call them on it. Ask for the respect the office deserves or else ask them to concede that they do not have the dignity the office requires. Then tell them you now know why the Democrat symbol is a jackass.
Yeah, whatever. You're the kind of guy, that when someone posts "I just had a senior moment", comes back with "How dare you? My mother died of Alzheimers and it's nothing to joke about!".
As a former night club comic I would say that the best “heckler stopper” line I ever heard was to address the heckler with,” Look pal, do I jump up and down on the edge of the bed while you’re trying to work?”
