Native American Indians from western United States found to have genetic mutation typical of Ashkenazi Jews; connection may date back to time of Christopher Columbus
A population of Native American Indians from the US state of Colorado has been found to have a genetic mutation typical of Ashkenazi Jews. The finding suggests the presence of common roots that date back to the days of Christopher Columbus.
According to RT news, the so-called Ashkenazi mutation is a deleterious modification in BRCA1 gene which increases risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Researchers from the Sheba (Tel Hashomer) Medical Center in Israel found it in the DNA of descendants of those Indians who moved from Mexico to Colorado some 200 years ago.
The same mutation was earlier tracked in Hispanic Americans whose ancestors also arrived in the United States from Mexico and South America.
Computer analysis of genetic data has revealed that the two groups should have a common ancestor a Jewish person who moved from Europe to the New World as far back as 600 years ago. At around the same time that Christopher Columbus discovered America, and the Jewish population was expelled from Spain.
In their publication in the European Journal of Human Genetics, the team, led by Eitan Friedman, notes that Colorados Mexican Indians do not seem to have any traditions that would link them to Jews

So, we have a Jew who procreated like Genghis Kahn?
No...this was a mutation in the BRCA gene...it wasn’t one unique Y chromosome (which was the evidence from the Ghengis Khan story), so it was a group of people rather than one. At least that’s what it appears to be, though I am no expert.

wow thanks- looks like I’ve got a lot of homework to do-
The yemenite jews are descended from those who left judah before the fall of the first temple. That is why their liturgy is older than that of other jews. They also took their families with them as it was an exodus... As to the articles posted that said jews are descended from just one man but 4 women, there are the 4 matriarchs
During and before the Inquisition, many Jews changed their names and went underground (in worship) to avoid persecution. One surname that comes to mind is Benavidez. A shortened form of Ben David with the “ez” added to sound more Spanish.
I read an article about 10 years ago that claimed that Columbus, himself, was Jewish. I think that it was in the Smithsonian.
Interesting...thanks.
No.
Judah, Benjamin and Levy survived more-or-less intact. Shimon’s portion was mostly within Judah, so it is safe to think they were included with Judah. These were joined by remnant faithful of the other tribes when the two kingdoms split.
The DNA profiles of all the tribes would be similar, and related most closely to others from the Mideast.

I myself am of the Sosumis..
some science is hard to believe.
Perfect, Joe...
Lozem Geyn!
I've never understood the desire of Europeans to imagine themselves Northern Israelites. They betray their history in a desire to be a remnant of a group sent to oblivion for horrible behavior?
Your Going to have to give me a definition on that one.
The only one I could find is that Sosumi is one of the system sounds introduced in Apple Inc.'s Macintosh System 7 operating system in 1991.
