I’ve worked food service. I know the math. I’ve seen all you can eat blow up. And I’ve seen it work.
Actually you not only can but you MUST blame it on the customers when they’re deliberately shrinking their bill AND your profit. Why should the business increase the prices for everybody because of two fat lazy SOBs taking advantage of the business? If the regular customers are dining profitably then the price is fine, the problem is the guys that are deliberately screwing you. No reason to punish the masses for these two, it’s not the masses fault.
Fat slobs aren’t an advertising opportunity. “Hey come eat with these fat guys that probably don’t have great taste in food but they have figured out how to get a lot of food for cheap” isn’t good advertising. It draws exactly the wrong crowd. You want people that buy drinks, fill up fast, and get out. Exactly the opposite of these guys. If you’re gonna pick customers to use in your ads you want the ones that only eat one plate and still feel they got their money’s worth.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Anytime someone comes in and hands you money for your product - there should be very few reasons to tell them no - I don’t want your money.
Especially in this crappy economy.
Because the customer offered himself the "all you can eat" deal?
A business owner who offers the "all you can eat" deal has no responsibility when someone takes them up on it???
“Ive worked food service. I know the math. Ive seen all you can eat blow up. And Ive seen it work.”
Indeed. I live in Las Vegas. My daughter and I hit a buffet on holidays because cooking just isn’t worth it. I probably pay for at least 3 fatty’s, but it’s better than throwing out food that will either go bad or not fit in the fridge.
For some more Sizzler stories, we had a lady who was bulemic come into the restaurant. She'd pig out, throw up, then come back for more. It took a while to catch her since she wore a different wig each time, but we noticed she always sat right by the bathroom. One of the waitresses caught her doing her thing in one of the stalls. We politely asked her to not come back.
We also had a family who let the kidddies go to the salad bar, take a bowl of croutons or M&Ms from the sundae bar and come back to the table where they would throw everything on the floor like confetti. We also asked them politely to leave.
Something about all you can eat buffets that brings out the worst in people. One guy took the whole uncut pineapple used as a prop to hold up the fresh fruit section. Of course it ruined it for everyone else.
That seems to be the name of the game. "A$$wipes who ruin it for everyone else".
My restaurant went out of business about 2 years after I left. What a surprise.
You seem to have it in for "fat slobs", for whatever reason. What you may have missed, but I have noted is that sometimes the guy who can really put the food away is a little skinny guy.
If your business is so on the ropes you can't absorb the (should be) relatively small loss from a couple of people who can eat a lot at the buffet, you likely have more serious problems.
Maybe they should give Gordon Ramsey a call...
