Casino Royale #1????? - my patience is being tested today. The best movie is On Her Majesty's Secret service

Put the Roger Moore movies at the bottom, then go up from there.

I'm surprised Golden Eye only made it to 9, I would have put it in the top five. I think it got dissed only because all of the other Pierce Brosnan films were so bad. It certainly holds up better than The Living Daylights and Thunderball.

The other thing I find amazing is that there are two bond films rated worse than Moonraker. Seriously that movie is so bad it wouldn't even have made it on MST3K.

Glad to see OHMSS as #2. It’s my favorite.

Not a bad list overall, however, I would put “You Only Live Twice” (their 13) in the top five, and “Casino Royale” (their 1) at about number 20 - absolutely hate the new Bourne-like Bond. It has no resemblance to the original books at all.

In terms of fidelity to Ian Fleming’s work, “From Russia With Love” is the best, IMHO

Casino Royale #1?! The movie comes to a screeching halt with that card game.

“Mr Bond, do you have any “7’s”?

“Go fish.”

#1 is Goldfinger.

I must be the oddball, may because it's because I grew up in the late 70’s early 80’s, but I actually like those goofy James Bond movies of that era like View to a Kill (which is probably my all time favorite), Octopussy and Moonraker.

One good line though. In Tomorrow Never Dies Bond “is tortured by North Koreans and Madonna’s title song”

It’s hard to rate the cringe-worthy elements. Like in the really crude studio set of an Alpine cabin at the start of The Spy Who Loved Me; the Jaws love story in Moonraker; and the “Taliban at the London symphony” of The Living Daylights.

However, there are some truly spectacular bits as well, such as the opening sequence on Gibraltar, and the counter kidnapping from the safe house in The Living Daylights, and the opener to The World Is Not Enough including the boat chase on the Thames and the Millennium dome.

Since I preferred the realism of the early Fleming books, I liked the more realistic movies best as well.

1. Caisino Royale with Daniel Craig.

2. From Russia With Love. The switch from Russia’s KGB to Spectre was done for political nice/nice, but was covered by the use of Soviet style uniforms. Lotte Lenya as a villainess was superb.

3. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Once you get to the more and more unbelievable plots and villains, they are all of a piece, fighting over last place in terms of movies, but lots of fun.

Diamonds are forever was not Connery’s last Bond film. The completely forgo Never Say Never Again (1983). Of course it was a pretty forgetable remake of Thunderball.

There have been 24 previous Bond movies. The original Casino Royale is the worst, followed by any Roger Moore flick.

Which old Bond movie had the opening of Bond in a helicopter and swooped down and picked up a guy in a wheel chair and dropped him in a smoke stack?

When I was a kid, I had read every Ian Flemming Bond novel and loved them. The first Bond film I went to see was Dr. No when it came out in 1962. A very memorable film because of Ursula Andress... the hottest woman ever.

IMHO, the best Bond film was Goldfinger. After that one they turned all about gadgets and 'special effects' and strayed so far away from the Flemming books (which were actually mystery/suspense novels) that I loved as a teen that I lost interest in the films. I really didn't see many of the Bond films after that ... but I still (fondly) remember Ursula Andress! ;~))
