An 11-year-old Russian boy stumbled across the 30,000-year-old remains of a woolly mammoth, an experience that was surely either incredibly exciting or permanently traumatising.
According to the Moscow News, Yevgeny Salinder found the 500-kilogram beast in the tundra of the Taymyr peninsula in northern Russia. Scientists laboured for a week with axes and steam to dig it out of the permafrost it's been encased in for centuries.
Woolly mammoths have been found in the permafrost in Siberia since at least 1929, but this is one of the best preserved. Its tusks, mouth and rib cage are clearly visible....

I can show where dinosaur or mammoth bones are buried under a cul de sac in Colorado.
GOP-e Olde Guard?
And all along people thought it was buried under an end zone in Giant Stadium.

I’m *fairly* confident that there may be a couple dinosaur skeletons right underneath the spot where I’d like to dig that new pond. Who do you think I should tell? :-)
Ew. It’s *dirty*. I don’t see no wool, either. Just dirt and stuff.
Wow...
The richest private collector yu can find.
I was on a job near Victorville, CA and kept seeing some guys working under a canopy off the road a ways. After a week or so I went over to check it out. Turns out the two men would go there on weekends and do some amateur fossil hunting. The one weekend the young son, about 10-12yrs was there as well.
He didn’t care for the slow and careful manner of carefully digging out the little fossils. So went off a ways with a shovel and started digging a big hole. He got down to something interesting.
Weeks later they were still uncovering the almost intact mammoth the kid had found! I remembered telling him “All the other kids when you get back to school will say they got to see the movie Jurassic Park (new at the time), you can say you DID Jurassic Park!”
Is Jimmy Hoffa there too?
If he’ll buy me a trackhoe and a dozer, I’ll even dig for ‘em myself. ;-)
I think there may be *more* bones underneath my *neighbors’* new pond sites too...
I know a place in Colorado where there is a little trail that leaves a neighborhood and winds up a ways around some rocks. It ends a hundred feet above the neighboorhood, on a small outcropping of rock, which people can stop and gaze over the neighboorhood. I was enjoying the view, when gradually I noticed the rocks around me had indentations. It took me a minute to realize they were giant footprints. I was standing right in the middle of where a giant sauropod had been standing.
That's certainly not a place I'd want to grow up in.....
Looking like the demise of the Democrat Party to me.
Could be but for the past week it was thought he was under a driveway in Roseville, MI........LOL!
As a side note, a good friend of mine's nephew was on site as the camera crews were filming the drilling and ultimate taking of the soil samples......a half block away from the Roseville police station.
I have some chicken bones from El Pollo Loco.
Only 30,000 years old? /sarc
“...an experience that was surely either incredibly exciting or permanently traumatising.”
About 1958, my family lived on Oxnard Beach (pre-marinas). One afternoon I found the rotted carcass of a walrus that had washed ashore. Its tusks were still intact, very long and prominent, as were its ribcage. I was not traumatized, just curious. I kept my distance as it stank. Tramatic? No.
I doubt the 11-year old in Siberia was upset at his discovery.
