I think it's sad that you've lost sight of where the real power in America resides. Do you not realize that the reason you've enjoyed the relative 'good life', is only because the Framers enshrined the right to keep and bear arms in our Constitution?
Do you honestly believe that we'd even have the semblance of personal freedom in this country, if the powers that be had no fear of the people? What do you think restrains them from suppressing every natural right you have? Laws? Conscience?
Think again.
You've been beaten down, if you really believe a president could command and accomplish what you're suggesting. Not in this country.
I'm more concerned with what will happen should Obama lose. Riots...[snip]...Since Obama will still be president, there will be nothing stopping him from declaring martial law and nullifying the election.I beg to disagree. I think the "Martial Law" scenario in the USA in modern times is only possible in very limited locales (think Katrina and NOLA). A general martial-law scenario covering the US as a whole would never happen. Local Law Enforcement in likely 95%+ of the country would tell the feds to get stuffed because:
Even the military (as large as it is) would still be spread too thin over the entire country to have much of an effect *PRESUMING* the military would go along with it in the first place. Obama would need to have the loyalty of the military - enough to go along with such a blatant power-grab - and that alone is not believable.
So, I would put your fears of a general martial law to rest. About all Obama could do is attempt an Al Gore vote-challenge strategy to drag out the election and that only happens if the vote is virtually tied in a state(s) with enough electors to make a difference. Which, if you believe the polls, is more plausible.
The Civil War and the election of 1864 answers that question!
