A few times I have heard Tom going on about carrying a flashlight. Hell, some things are just overkill, right?
I got married last Saturday, rained all day but that’s a different story. That night my bride and I stayed in an upscale hotel in Richardson, TX. Got there and checked in, drank some bubbly and ate some chocolate strawberries and decided to stroll down to the lower level and sit in the hot tub.
We jump in the elevator and ride it down, get out and prepare to relax in the 102 degree water … and all the lights go out. Except the emergency battery operated ones, that is. Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit, I had my “tactical flashlight” with me, the one I bought at the insistence of The Great Enabler. Fired that puppy up and walked a few flights of stairs back up to our room, by the illuminations from my tac light. Maybe we should have jumped in that hot tub, nobody would have been around for some time, but I came out of that smelling like a rose and looking like an awesome Husband because I was prepared.

LED flashlights are very small and bright these days. Gun Talk Radio is great as well. Their podcasts, 3 hours a week on Sundays and old shows can be listened to on the web. Guntalk Radio is the search word.
I carry an LOD-CE single AAA light, on my key chain.
The newer version is the LOD1 XP-G (R4).
I has 5 brightness, and battery life settings, 26 lumens (3hours, 8 minutes), 3 lumens (27 hours), and 72 lumens (1hour 28 minutes, flashing, and SOS.
The light is regulated to give the same brightness during the life of the battery.

It is not a high-end beast, got if off Amazon for like $40.
Uhhhh, Streamlight ProTac2L. Nuttin’ fancy.

That is an impressive light and some of the guys will prefer it, for one thing, 180 lumens on bright is very cool.
I prefer the key chain light and regular batteries instead of the more expensive type batteries, the one in post 5 is great for that.

That’s pretty much why I chose that one. It is not keychain tiny, but small enough to carry in a pocket. Working the tailcap on/off switch took me a while to master, but I figure this beast has already paid for itself.
Plus you could put somebody’s eye out with it, I guess, in a pinch. Easier to carry than a MiniMag, one-hand operation, bright enough to hurt your eyes, and it’s Streamlight. What’s not to like?

Some here can’t imagine what a light such as that is like.
They don’t know that “regulated” means it doesn’t dim as the battery is drained, it stays the same throughout the life of the battery.
They also don’t know that your light burns at 10 lumens which is close to mom’s old 2 D-cell flashlight in brightness, and that it does it for 50 hours! Not bad for being stuck on an elevator, or in a 10 day blackout.
Not everyone here has ever seen a flashlight that burns at 180 lumens, yet yours has the option to do that, and it does it for 2.5 hours. That means you are carrying a serious searchlight and/or a 10 day lantern/regular flashlight on your belt.

I hear ya. At first I thought the $2 LED flashlight I got from Harbor Freight was enough, but I really like the Streamlight for the subtle stuff.
Hey, I own 8 bicycles, I am a gear freak and I believe in the right tool for the job. I have no remorse for this purchase, like I said it has already made me a stud in the eyes of She Who Must Be Obeyed, and that is worth a mountain of things I shoulda woulda coulda done ;)
I tell people that they can buy all the cheap LED lights they want for extras and lenders, but sometimes you NEED a light, and you want a light with many capabilities, and dependabilty built into it and that is why everyone needs a couple of true, high quality, (expensive) name brand lights, like Fenix (my favorite), Streamlight, and Surefire, and so on.
Maglite’s day is already old and gone, they finally adopted LEDs, but only in basic ways, they are an adequate light for housewives to buy, but not gadget, hi-tech guys, and the no name lights are not what you want to depend on when it is your ONLY light.
You just keep your LED away from my bore, son ;)

I have the same light based on an article posted here on FR following the Colorado theater badness. It is amazing. LEDs have completely changed the flashlight world.
The LED flashlights have really come a long way in the last few years. You can get a small pocket size flashlight now, that puts out 120 lumens, only uses one AA battery and costs around $50.
