Least Powerful People

An unusual list called The 100 Least Powerful People in the World appeared in the online publication 24/7 Wall St. Among those selected were corporate executives, sports figures, politicians, and celebrities who shared one common characteristic—­they used to be powerful. Some were victims of circumstances, others made poor business decisions, while others lost their influence because of moral failure.

In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul draws a somber lesson from Old Testament history. The people Moses led from slavery in Egypt toward freedom in the Promised Land kept turning their backs on God who had delivered them (vv.1-5). Idolatry, immorality, and grumbling were among the things that brought them down (vv.6-10). Paul points to their collapse as an example to us, and sounds this warning: “Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall” (v.12).

Every follower of Jesus can stand firm on God’s promise: “He will see to it that every temptation has a way out, so that it will never be impossible for you to bear it” (v.13 Phillips). All of us have power to influence others in their faith. How tragic to squander it by yielding to a temptation that God has empowered us to resist.

Lord, there are temptations to sin everywhere. Help me
not to give in. Make me sensitive to see the ways out
that You provide. I want my love for You to be real and
to encourage others in their faith journey.

The best way to escape temptation is to run to God.

I use ham diced or a ham bone, Lord me too, or chicken or turkey vegetable, I just love about any of them as long as they are home made. I save my end of the year cherry tomatoes and freeze them and pop them into the soup pot for added flavor and fiber.

Know how you feel Ortho on Monday for the rotator cuff, had bad reaction to the flu shot Monday which has lasted all this week.

I couldn’t tell what it was. It sorta looked like beef but
I’ve never seen that before. Good idea about the cherry
tomatoes but I never have any left over. When I buy them, I usually eat them all!

Good luck on the ratator cuff!! What did the flu shot do to you?

I finally called my doctor yesterday for this sinus infec-
tion and he sent me an antibiotic and I hope that helps.
I’m doing my awful paper work today and glad when thats
over!

We compare to what?

It is (good, bad, indifferent, terrible, poor, etc.) compared to what? A hut or a palace? or a mansion? We make comparisons continually. Look at how we think.

How do we look at it?

It is within us to choose to see from a perspective of trusting God and believing His Scriptures. Obedience or disobedience? How do we decide on a day to day basis?

We are rebels usually. God is not pleased. Thank God for not imposing .... as was the case of JOB, Christ, Paul. and all the apostles, as were the Christians that were fed to the lions, --- for not renouncing faith in Christ. We are to be the 'light of the world'.

Many of God's people, take the good and resent having to be obedient to the rules/commandments of God.

We are to be ashamed. God is not mocked.

All that we are and have is the gift of God.

We love the LORD God, God is good. Let us love Him and praise Him, and seek to follow His instructions, which is the basis of the good life.

Thank The LORD for His GOODNRSS, MERCY, GRACE, LOVE. Asking us to be obedient is for our good. Let us praise HIM, ever, in Jesus name amen.

All the people of God experience testing, chastising, which lasts no longer than necessary to achieve His purpose. When we truly trust the LORD God, we are at peace in our heart. O we may experience momentary fear, yet we are a people that has a God that tells us to pray believing we have received what it is we prayed for to happen. How wonderful Do you believe your prayers will be answered?

Mine is blowing, too, TCP! And so are the leaves! I can’t
take my flag in daily and I know the rules. Its too hard
for me to take in and out. When it starts wearing out, I
replace it quickly! Love my flag showing. I’m the only
one in the neighborhood who flies their flag! I would be
lost without mine!

Good evening, Meg! Happy Red Friday! I hope everything is going well with you!

I worked for many months in the building that houses the Navy Memorial, across 9th Street from the FBI Building. I have walked by those flags, which comprise all of our National Emblems from the days of the Revolution down to the present, on many occasions. The FBI Building itself is, in my opinion, not much to look at, but the walk across its Southern facade from 9th to 10th Streets is wonderful - the sidewalk is a good 15 to 20 yards wide with several rows of Willow Oaks providing shade.

Actually, the planting of the oaks was controversial when it occurred. I believe it was in the 1970's, but I could be wrong about that. Previously, Pennsylvania Avenue was flanked by rows of beautiful mature American Elms. These were cut down and replaced by the Willow Oaks, which were deemed better equipped to survive in urban pollution.

The outcry at the loss of the graceful American Elms was intense. If I recall correctly, it was an administrative decision made by some bureaucrat, and no one knew it was happening until the Elms were felled. It has taken a long time for the Oaks to grow to sufficient size to make a statement, as it were. You can see one of the Willow Oaks on the left of the photograph in your post. I like the Willow Oaks, but, truth be told, I miss the American Elms. They are a special tree, and thankfully they seem to have found the treatment for Dutch Elm disease.
